There is no Airforce Base in Monterey California. It is a joint service military base, for the Foreign Language Center.
If you are married, then you will have the option of living on old Fort Ord housing. This area was privatized about 4 years ago. The houses are small duplexs. Each home having about 1400 square feet of living space, two bedrooms, 1 bath. All the ones I have seen have hard wood floors.
If you are single then you will be living in the barracks. I am not familiar with the Airforce Barracks, but from the outside it appeard the same as the Army Barracks, which consists of approximately 30 rooms per floor, two persons to a room. And a communal latrine/shower area.
I hope this helps. I loved being in Monterey, and consider it one of the best military posts to go to. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

DLI is not an Air Force base. It is an Army Base that houses a joint school for all Branches for language training. The only other base there is Naval Postgraduate School and some smaller Navy Dets, as well as a Coast Guard Station.
all married enlisted DLI students are housed at OMC, the old Ft Ord. there is no waiting list to get into housing there currently. It is PPV, and depending on paygrade and family size, you may be better off living out in town. Officers get the choice between OMC and LaMesa(NPS) regardless of which command they are at.
Single students have no choice: they live in the barracks.

International Relations Coordinator Robyn Broughton says His Holiness really wanted to interact with staff and students. As the capacity of St David is limited to 500 people, it was decided to run a competition to choose which staff and students can attend – asking what question they would ask the Dalai Lama. The competition closes on Friday 19 April, but Mrs Broughton says there has been a fantastic response already from staff across the campus. “We have had entries from across the board,” she says. “Right from PhD students to senior management.” And the questions cover a spectrum of topics too. “There are quite a few around how to achieve balance in a busy life, quite a few around His Holiness’s thoughts around the role of tertiary education for young people, some around how to stay positive, someone has asked ‘If you could be an animal, what would you be?’, another has asked ‘What is your favourite childhood memory?’.” The final questions to be put to His Holiness will be selected by the national organiser of the Dalai Lama Trust, but Mrs Broughton believes there will be mix of serious and more light-hearted questions. Professor Mark Henaghan of Law will facilitate the session and put the questions to him.
