kind of hard to diagnose with out being there but if you have a voltage meter, youi can test to see if the

1. constant has power ( usually solid yellow i think) the thing should atleast light up with a time or something.

i would just check and make sure that the ground is soild, and both the constant and the ignition chords are secure those are the only ones that realy control the power to the unit.

if the fusein the back of the radio is good and the cars raido fuse and you can check and actually see that there is power to the unit then you have a bad stero.

also I dont know exactly what type of stero your installing so it may take more stuff. worst case when all the wires are out, hook up the old unit real fast to see if it works.

Does the radio have an inline fuse holder? may be blown. Test for power at the power wire going to the radio and make sure you have a good ground also. Radio may also have an internal fuse.

check the fuse in your power line.
