If he existed, yes, the OT would prove that he is not loving.

GOD IN LAW AND ORDER SO WHO IS IN HIS IMAGE TO DO THE SAME?
There must be law and order, not violence. There must be enforcement and if no one is willing, then there must be punishment and all left standing is willing and agrees with the enforcer that the right thing and the only thing has been done that could be done at year 1656 after Adam, is the flood to end the widespread violence. Then about 450 years after the flood, [ Noah had live 350, Shem had lived 502 years, Terah born 222 had 205 years life Gen.11:32 ]; and not even 10 for a law could be found in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Abraham's family was chosen to get the law aof the land and the laws of God and be law enforcers from 859 to 897 years after the flood while Moses was alive, and Judges were enforcers from Exodus to Samuel Acts 13:20; 450 years at 1307 after flood. David had been an enforcer 1Ki.2:10,11; and now Solomon 1Ki.6:1; 480 years after Moses death in year 4 has peace enough to build a temple for God;s name 1377 years after the flood to 1Ki.11:42; he dies at 40th year 1413 after the flood and 997 BCE.

DEATH penalty for a poor man who collected firewood on the sabbath ?
"While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was discovered gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who caught him at it brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly. But they kept him in custody, for there was no clear decision as to what should be done with him. Then the Lord said to Moses, "This man shall be put to death; let the whole community stone him outside the camp." So the whole community led him outside the camp and stoned him to death as the Lord had commanded Moses." Numbers 15:32-36 NAB

The bible can prove or disprove anything you want it to. All any one has to do is pick a verse here and a verse there and they can prove their point. Chapters and verses are man made, in fact the bible has been edited and translated so many time that many of the original ideas have been altered or lost altogether. So why argue over it's meaning? What you think or what I think will never change what God is!

I implore you to understand that I am answering with the upmost respect.
The atrocities of the OT are the products of the OT World, which was far less civilized and far more violent than the modern world.
At the time, massacres of conquered cities were not only common, but expected. The death penalty was very common and other harsh penalties such as exile were aslo.
This was simply the culture of the time- the product of an imperfect world, not the faults of a loving God.

No, ur Q alone,
shows YOU are the 1 w/out understanding.
When Jehovah has to execute judgement,
it is not without justice,
mercy, compassion and love.
When People turn their backs on Him,
disrespect Him,
commit atrocious acts,
He will eventually,
in His time, (@ the right time)
Do Something about it.
Never has He Ever committed an unjust act.
Never.

No it proves that he is righteous and true to his word. The wages of sin is death and there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. You may label it atrocities however, it's call called justice and you will see God's justice again in the "End Times".

It seems that the god that both opposite cultures believe on, follows cultural mandates...and not vice versa... since he is god...he can chose to change things now and then at this own choosing....not following any rules of any sabbath for example...
this is why it is curious that this particular god is so limited in its own powers and knowledge...it does not know beyond the limits of the solar system...
it is mainly a servant of human culture... its own slave....catering to cultural demands... and not showing his might at all. when he does show some might by flood of course, he shows short sightedness
he can simply show up and tell someone at any moment that something is wrong... but no... he has to go thru angels...holy spirits... what kind of god is this who needs assistants to do his work for him when he can simply think something and it is done?

The God of the Old Testament does appear to be a borderline psychotic, radically different from the God in the New Testament.
But, you had two completely different sets of mortal men responsible for writing each so, ...oops!
It's kind of funny how everyone claims God tells them to do these things and write these gospels, but doesn't tell anyone else. It's like "God told me to write this and if you don't follow it, you'll go to H-E-L-L!!" Yeah pal, whatever.

Have you read the book of Hosea lately? Yes, God is Holy and Just- however time and time again, He has called His people back with love- even when God's people in the OT were rebellious, He drew them back with loving-kindness.

Before I knew what Satanism really is, I thought Satanists believed that Satan was actually God and God was really the devil, tricking some into thinking he was the 'good guy'. Made sense to me. After all, the name 'Lucifer' means bringer of light and the snake (also associated with the character Satan) is the one who brings humans knowledge...
