To recap, the question was " Christians, if God commanded you to commit genocide on all atheists and people of other religions, would you do it?"

If you answered "yes" to that question, how would you know it was God commanding you? And indeed, when God issues any kind of command, how do you know it comes from him? Because, it could be anything, really, couldn't it? It could be Satan masquerading as God. It could be a delusional voice in your own mind. Or it could actually be God. So how do you know? Do you ask for ID? And what would you accept as positive identification?

But the question is more about how you know you're receiving a command from God himself, rather than your own mind.

Evan B, how can it not be important how you know? That's insane! It's important for the very reasons I spelled out!

jesussaves, it's not a trick question. It's something i wonder every time I hear people say things like "God has placed a word on my heart" (love the jargon there!) or "God has told me..."

How the hell do they know for sure that it is, in fact, God?

You're one step from the logical conclusion. Which is that only atheists are following the right path whether there is or is not a god. Atheists are the only ones waiting for proof that comes from a god instead of from a human.

Why would an infinitely intelligent being give no direct proof of his existence? Could it be as a test to see who most closely emulate an infinitely intelligent being such as himself? To see who will wait for him to provide proof and who will follow what some human tells them? Is there evidence of this? Thousands of contradictions from hundreds of religions.

I addressed this in the question, I would believe it to have been Satan. But if it was God, I think He would forgive me in believing so, I would never kill anyone, that not what I believe.

I answered yes with the caveat that I had to know it was God commanding me.

It really isn't important HOW one knows, it's only important that one knows.

Lets ask this question,,How do people know satan isn't telling them lies also...Some people are blinded so badly they only see any thing in the bible to justify their hate..God is not hate,He is love..and if you can't see that in the bible, they are having troubles..
