If you are in Bangkok, go to Ekamai bus station and catch a bus to Aranyaprathet and cross into Cambodia or go on an arranged trip to Savannakhet in Laos.

Any country you exit to except Burma will give you an extension. I would suggest that you take a VIP bus,
999 preferably, and they will take you across the border. They don't leave you at the border like some do. They have someone on board to facilitate the process. The only thing you do is fill in the form. It is so easy, Of course everyone on the bus has to be processed so the whole thing might take 30-45 mins as customs also checks the vehicle. On no account are you to leave any bag on any bus unless you have a padlock on it. You have been warned!!
If you tell anyone where you are going they will direct you to the correct bus station. Don't worry about it. I don't speak a would of Thai and I made it!!

Countries bordering Thailand include Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Malaysia.
You can take a "visa run" trip offered by Thai travel agencies. They charge about THB 2000 per person and includes the bus ride to the Thai border with Cambodia or Laos. Then, you walk across the border into Cambodia or Laos while the tour agency's escort will complete your exit formalities. You will be asked to assemble at a restaurant or hotel across the border and once the Thai entry visas have been stamped on your passports, you will walk back into Thailand. Your visa will be good for another 30 days stay. And the tour company will drop you back from where you started.

it depends on which part of thailand you are in, if you are in the south, you might consider Malaysia is the nearest border. There are few border towns down south of thailand, the most common one is bukit Kayu Hitam. Other border town available is Padang Besar, Golok and betong. I would recommend you to take a train instead of bus for convenient sake and also comfortable, as the train wll stop right at the immigration check point.
Happy traveling, mate!!!!!

Malaysia, Cambodia, Burma, and Laos.
I can't help with the bus station address though, as I don't know which border you are closest to.
