Yes there are different alternatives. If you want to check this website out, http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3524_7-5140428-1.html?tag=nl.e501 it shows different good ones that you may use free and cheaper than office. It also shows reviews about them. Openoffice.org is the most common for free alternative to office or you may check your school specials if they offer a $30 Microsoft office enterprise, some schools offer that price and it depends if it does.
The best online office is thinkfree.com, it works real good if looking for that kind.

Windows comes with Wordpad and Notepad, located under 'accessories'.
They can generate a variety of file types - RTF (rich text format) and TXT (text - very basic), that in some cases can be better than a Word file - since any computer anywhere, regardless of whether or not office or word is loaded on it can read it.
There are also tons of online utilities for e-mail, posting blogs and stuff that can double as word processors.

those are 2 important techniques. i could vote for LibreOffice. What got here approximately with OpenOffice is that it became progressed by way of sunlight Microsystems. Then Oracle offered out sunlight and won OpenOffice, which i think of has now been exceeded directly to a distinctive team. LibreOffice is almost a branch from OpenOffice, prepare by way of utility people who left OpenOffice whilst Oracle won sunlight, and that i think of they are extra dedicated to the entire open source concept. even however, the two a type of workplace suites artwork particularly a lot, so that is type of as much as you which ones one you come back to a variety to pass with.

There are excellent substitutes to consider from:
1.OpenOffice: It supports all MS-Office documents. You can also create and save files in Office formats!
http://openoffice.org/
2.StarOffice: This is the premium version of OpenOffice, but is available for free with Google Pack. StarOffice has a better spell check facility and more in-built templates than OpenOffice, but it doesn't include the Math component (a kind of advanced scientific calculator).

Pick anyone you like.

simply go to your control panel and uninstall the Microsoft Office application currently on your computer.
then get another 60 day trial at :
http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com
that is what i do every 60 days....not a problem.
however...i will tell you that i had previously downloaded Open Office and it reaks havoc on your computer...do not use it....besides what i view as faulty software, your hardware warranty will be void if you use this (i just got a new computer as well and checked this out with the mfr).
Stick with Microsoft...it is more reliable than open office.
good luck :)
