I heard they have a credit card you can get to pay for the stuff. I don't have a lot of money, nor a lot of credit. Do you think I would be apporved? How easy is it and how do you apply for one?

Whoa whoa whoa. This is not a good way to use credit. A car, a house, or a college tuition are big ticket items you should pay off over a series of years or months, but a wedding dress is not.

There are literally hundreds of wedding dresses on the market that are $500 or less. Some much less. If you put away just $50 a week (no eating out, no movies, no coffee should cover it) in less than 3 months you will have saved for your dress. For your sake, I ask you to please save up for the dress you buy and NOT put it on a credit card. If you can't pay off your credit card right away you will have to pay interest and that is expensive. Even "pay no interest now" schemes, when the 6 months is up, are ridiculously expensive. Expensive in dollars and also can hurt your credit rating (especially if you only pay your minimums), which in the future can make things like buying a house more expensive.

Start off your marriage by being smart about money. Save money and don't misuse credit. I know you can do this. Good luck.

Lots of very good answers to this question. I agree with most...be knowledgeable about what you're getting into. Is there an annual fee? How much? What's the interest rate? If there's a promotion (no interest/payments for 6 mo), do they tack on the accumulated interest charges after the 6 months if not paid? The layaway idea sounds good to me, but do they charge a fee for that as well? If you just cannot save enough money and decide to use a credit card, why a David's Bridal card? I mean, you're only going to use it once right? Maybe another card would be more appropriate. I have been using my Discover Miles card to make my wedding purchases. I pay it off at the end of the month, so no finance charges, but it's great because I'm earning miles that I'm going to put towards our honeymoon. Discover has a great Miles program that you can use toward any travel purchase, not a certain airline. I hear American Express also has high customer ratings. Check out Consumer Reports review of "reward" credit cards below. Good luck!

Don't get a credit card, especially from a place such as David's Bridal. They will only rape you with yearly charges and interest rates, especially if you have so-so credit.

They have $99 sales, which you don't need to apply for a credit card for. There are also other places you can get a decent dress.

Read the fine print before even thinking about applying. Read about it on the website, or on the pamphlet. Do not fill it out at the same time you visit the store.

When I was shopping for my dress I was on a budget also. I got the deal with 6 months no payments and no interest. Right now they're running 12 months no payments and no interest. All you have to do to apply for the card is go into a David's Bridal store and tell them you would like to apply for the credit account. They'd give you a form to fill out and sign. You give them your picture ID and they run the application right there. It took about 3 minutes. I'm not sure what their standards are as far as credit and income. I have pretty good credit, it's just "young" (I'm only 21 and most of my accounts are under 3 years old and therefore considered not mature enough). I was approved for $2000. I do have to warn you though...the lady told me the amount I was approved for as if someone had just killed my puppy. But I felt that was enough to work with. I got everything I needed(dress, veil, headpiece, undergarments, and rush alterations) for just over $1000. Even if you get approved for a few hundred, it's better than nothing. You just have to go apply and work with what you get. And make sure to actually pay it off in the 6 or 12 months if you get that...otherwise they'll dump all the interest that's been deferred for that time on you and you'll have to pay it.

like all credit cards - you have to pay for it eventually. if you get a promotion deal (6 months same as cash or no interest etc.) then pay it off in that time frame!

IMO - if you are planning to get married in the time frame that the promotion ends or planning to pay off the card after you're married - then don't bother with the card! simply ask you're finance to help pay for the dress upfront...don't want to? why not - he's going to be help paying off the credit card once you're married and then he's going to be paying interest too.

also - think down the line - do you think you're really going to need a David's bridal card once the wedding is over? no - then you have to cancel the card which actually looks worse on your credit ratings.

congrats and good luck!

Hello. Just go to a davids bridal store, or to the website, and apply for the credit card. Shouldnt take long at all. You can get approved for something. I cant tell you definetly if you will, but it's worth a shot. I got married last year and I know how expensive it can be! Good luck with everything! :)

Have you thought of going to a bridal consignment shop or EBay to buy a used dress rather than going into debt?
Another possibility would be to borrow one from a friend who is of similar size and height.

I would never suggest racking up debt especially for a Wedding. PLEASE DON'T! Do as I did @ David's Bridal...put half down and put the dress in layaway...you have 60 days to pay it off. My dress was only $350.00 though--remember you're only going to wear it once...Good luck.

When I purchased my dress I had next to no credit and I was approved. The worst that can happen is they dont give it to you, but you wont know unless you try. Good luck.
