My mother in law was driving my wifes car on our insurance pollicy. She was hit on the passenger side of the car and puched in to the roundabout by the cab on a 14 wheller. MY mother in law was not to blame as the lorry was in the wrong lane and there are witnesses who saw the accident.

The car is a 1996 renault clio and there is some heavy denting and scratches on the passenger door and front wing. Nothing that has effected the driveability of the car to my knowledge. since the car was pushed up over the kerb and on to the roundabout it could have knocked the tracking a little.

I dont know how much it will be to repair but the car is only worth about £600 and the insurance policy on this car has an excess of £350 cause it was the named driver who was driving and not my wife. There also is no protected no claims bonus.

If i was to put this claim through the insurance how would this effect the pocket and the no blaims bonus.

If it was the other guys fault, and you're confident that you can prove that, then definitely go ahead and claim.
It will go down as a non-fault claim, you will get your excess back, it won't affect your no-claims bonus, and it won't have an adverse affect on your future insurance premiums.
You will have to declare it when getting insurance quotes for the next 5 years, but as it's a non-fault claim, it will have absolutely no adverse affect.

Get your mother in law along to see a doctor. I'm sure she suffered an injry during the impact. Get her to tell the doctor that her back has been hurting ever since the accident.
That way she'll get a nice personal injury payout from the lorry drivers insurance company too.

The car would probably be written off if the repair is worth more than the car, you could a few quotes from garages to confirm this but either way as a non fault accident as long as the other vehicle has insurance I would still claim. You may have to pay the excess but you will get this back from the other company.

I think the car will be a write off. The cost of repairing it will possibly be more than the car is worth if your values are correct. IF the accident was not your M in Law's fault it will not affect your no claims bonus if your insurance recover their outlay. Suggest you buy another car

oK. if I'm going to guess, the insurance company will total your car, meaning, they will say the repairs are more than the cost of the car. even with a different of about 250 lbs sterling, you are making an educated guess. In america, the insurance company of the man the hit you would look at the car and make a settlement offer. If you are asking if you put it through your insurance, the answer would be no, because that will raise your rates EVEN THOUGH you weren't at fault.

If the accident wasnt your mother in laws fault then you should claim off the wagon drivers insurance. I presume that she got all his details etc. Just get in touch with your insurance company and give them his details and they should do the rest for you.If the damage is more than the value of the car the insurance company will probably right it off with the car being over 10yrs old.

The insurance company will almost certainly 'write off' your vehicle as being uneconomic to repair. They will pay you the 'book price' which will almost certainly be a lot less than you think it should be, and you will have to 'disclose the claim' every time you renew for the next 3 years, or even 5.

If your mother in law was not at fault this will not affect your no claims. My wife's car was hit by a van while parked and she recovered the loss without paying her excess or it affectiong her bonus. £350.00 is a big excess btw!!!
