I personally would have neither in a public school, in public schools there is no prayer and bible, simply because the concept of many different religious beliefs under on roof. Which bible do you use, witch prayer do you say? How do you come up with the funding to hire More staff to hold bible studies, in an already hurting budget? Sadly prayer and Bibles does not make the violence go away...Take a look back in history and the recent wold events..Religious beliefs are USED as a reason for the attacks and violence that is and has occurred, not for every war, skirmish or attack, but the vast majority. I lived right beside a Private religious school for many years, there was still violence and kids bringing guns to school,

This is a very extreme question isn't it? Why would you even put prayer and bible in the same question as guns and violence. This is how intolerance is born. Why is it that because some religions have the bible ALL the kids would have to read the bible? What if the child is Jewish? Or Muslim. Appartently your way is the only way.

I personally would rather have neither. It's not the school's job to teach my son religion. I think you have asked a very narrow minded question. Nobody in their right mind would choose guns and violence so therefore they MUST agree with you. NOT ME. I choose neither.

Well, just because one if not there (prayer) does not mean it is the cause of the other (guns). I do not support the idea of the Bible and prayer as part of the public school system. I do however support the inclusion of courses that teach the basic history, tenents and beliefs of all of the major religons. Our schools have become diverse and we are missing out on a huge opportunity to increase acceptance and understanding by not helping one another realize where and what each religon believes. There would be no preference shown...course curriculum would cover the same information for all religons. It would be educational only. However , none of this makes any difference. The constitution prohibits religon of any sort in public schools under seperation of church and state. And I will not vote to change it unless it is clear that all religons would be equally respected and represented where appropriate...Christian, Judiaism, Muslim, Buddhist and others. The prayer and holy book for you family may not be the one for the family of the student next to your child...so until we can be open and able to support that equity, things need to stay as they are.

Well I think the obvious reason is A. A prayer and bible. But in most public if not all schools they ban that. There used to be a poem in the guidance office about not having any prayer in school but about kids getting shot. I wish I remember what it was but that was 4 years ago.

A Bible AT school won't protect my kids when somebody is bringing a gun TO school.

Obviously, this is a complex question; a short answer is:

Education that instills values conducive to rejection of violence BEFORE CHILDREN START GOING TO SCHOOL.

Long Answer. C) Parents who are industrious and work ceaselessly to educate their own children regardless of their faith or lack thereof. Parents who accept their responsibility to society and teach children a value of human life that is relative to theirs and their immediate circle of friends and acquaintances. Parents who think before they have a child and realize that the full time job requires sacrifice and that no amount of money, complaints, or religion will make a public school a perfect substitute for the education that they should and NEED to receive at home, before, during, and after school.

When I was a kid, we prayed after saying the pledge, and after school we took our guns out of our lockers and went into the woods and shot things. (including each other, but that was by accident)

I don't think teaching religion in schools will lower the propensity to violence. Some of the most religious countries in the world are among the most violent.

Besides, parents put way too much of their children's upbringing on the shoulders of the school. Do you really want some 22 yr old kid who just spent 4 years learning how to coach a football game teaching your child about his version of God?

YOU teach your child about God, as mandated in the bible.... don't sluff it off to public education!

Because no one has ever done violence in the name of religion?
And the child that has to go outside during the "prayer" doesn't get teased at best and bullied at worst?

Terrorist pray right before the blow up themselves and others.... Prayer and Bibles are not the answer to violence... I hope you are not that near sighted to see that....

A, of course. But to whom would the children be allowed to pray to and which bible are you referring to? That makes a HUGE difference in the final decision!
