A Christian asks for advice and the response he gets is don't listen to Christians. Not to mention that the person chosen as the best answer used profanity, which goes against community guidelines. This makes no sense to me, but then a Christian has to know that when he or she needs advice, it's best to turn to another christian and preferably a minister. My question is in reference to the following question and advice: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqcXJKPM06Kk03v7csbrCTTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070924185707AAo1NUc&show=7#profile-info-JS9MJYf0aa

Usually I vote based on if the person answered the question objectively and informatively. I try to rate responses the same as well.

However, it seems that usually people choose/vote "best answer" based on if it conforms to their particular belief, not if it was informative, objective, legible, actually responded to the question, etc.

You might also note that answers that people disagree with, even if they are perfectly legitimate answers, will be rated poorly if it is not what the rater believes. Yahoo Answers has very little to do with facts or the truth.

I choose best answer if the response has been informative and logical, and the last criteria is if it is polite.
I do not like the ignorant intrusions that have no meaning to the question when asked by Christians, the one`s with nothing to give or add except abuse and utter stupidity.
For unbelievers to jump in uninvited is pure ignorance and immaturity that smacks of who and what they really are deep inside,, undisciplined and egotistic children.

The person asked for help as they are a Christians. As matured Christians we should help them the best we can, adding scriptures and our own life experiences. Someone telling a Christian not to listen to Christians just doesn't make sense.

As for what I use to vote, I look for thumbs up, for content, and for a real answer.

For that particular question, the fact that he chose not to pick his own best answer indicates to me that he really didn't care about the question in the first place. So, it really doesn't matter what answer got chosen as I doubt seriously that he even came back to check on it. There were several answers there that were very good and a couple of them even got votes. Judging by the numbers, however, it looks to me like the answerers just went back and voted on their own answers.

If I do choose a best answer, I look for whether or not the person actually understood the question, if their answer makes sense, if it was from the Bible, or based on Biblical understanding, if it will work or not.

If anyone is going to ask the general population for advice, they are going to get all different answers. If you only want one perspective, you should ask the question where you are only going to get one perspective.
