Breakfast is important to get your body and your mind going. It gives you energy that you need to be alert.
For your second question - people may be concerned because they know you don't eat breakfast and maybe they don't see you eating much at other times during the day. You are thin, and for an average person, they might assume that you can't possibly be that thin unless you are starving yourself. If you are a healthy eater and people make comments about you looking anorexic, tell them that you eat a balanced diet and that you don't think it is polite for them to make comments about your weight. In a sick way, it may even be their way of complementing you b/c maybe they wish they were thinner. Who knows what's going through people's heads.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. i know it's cliche, but it's true. The reason is simple. Think of food as fuel for the body. The things that you do every minute of each day require energy. To maintain an energy level the average body need some form of food intake every 3 or 4 hours. So many people feel sluggish in the morning because they have not eaten for 8 to 12 hours and then skip the meal. Your body goes into "starvation" modes, slowing the metabolism and storing fats. Even with an energy bar or piece of fruit you will give your body energy to start the day.

I use to get that a lot too, before I gained ten pounds. I always wondered why it was okay for them to ask me if I was anorexic but it was never okay for me to ask why they were overweight. Nevertheless, to answer your question breakfast is important because it gives you energy and you're less likely to over eat later in the day.
