It doesn't matter of which NYC area airport LaGuardia, JFK or Newark Liberty International you choose you're about 20-25 minutes away from Manhattan.

Overall, I don't think it matters. JFK might save you a little money at times.
Personally, I had a lovely experience the one trip I took out of and back to JFK. I've had some good and some bad experiences at Newark.

You can frequently get better fares into Newark, and air traffic is frequently lighter (therefore less delays).

Newark is certainly a great airport - even at its busiest peak times it still is manageable and easy to access, unlike JFK and La Guardia (forget about it), which are huge hassles. Newark simply gets right to the point and gets you to the gate quickly. All the terminals have small corridors with moving walkways that lead to the concourses quickly. There's also a monorail for traveling to other concourses.

They are just about equal. You get the best view of the city flying into LaGuardia. Personally I prefer Newark, much easier to navigate in and around Newark airport.

JFK in bad weather closes later and opens early than Newark. other then that it doesn't make much difference.

JFK - i found the trip in to Manhattan far nicer than the one from Newark - great views of the Empire State in the departure lounge!

I have always found great rates using Newark with Continental and and get in and out quickly if they are no weather delays.
