If I, a South African, were to marry an American citizen IN the United States..
How do I then become an American citizen myself?
Would I need a GreenCard? .. what about College? would I be paying reasonable prices like every other citizen.. or would I still be paying high prices, despite being married to an American.

If you were to marry an American in the US then that person would have to file the proper paperwork, including an IR-1 I-130 immigrant visa petition for you. The petition itself would be valid immediately after approval, but getting that approval through USCIS can take 6 months or more by itself. Then you would need to wait for an adjustment hearing with USCIS before actually getting a green card. that could take anoher year or more. However, you would have a temporary status while waiting for USCIS to catch up with the paperwork that would allow you to remain here legally. . If you were married less than 2 years at that point, you would receive a conditionalgreencard, and you would be eligible for a permanent green card after two years of marriange. After 3 years of marriage you would be able to apply to become a US citizen, but again there are backlogs in the naturalization program as well, but once you passed the test and the clearances, you would be a US citizen. As for college expenses, that depends on residency in whatever state you are living in. The residency requirements vary from state to state, so that's not up to US law. Check out uscis.gov and travel.state.gov for lots ands lots of information on immigrant visa petitions and procedures.

Why would you be paying higher prices for anything an American citizen would? Never ever heard that before.
Best to contact our INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) and ask them. You should start by visiting the USA consulate in South Africa to get preliminary info. Hope this helps!

I will tell you the friend of my son from Greece who has been in the USA for over ten years on first college and then green card just took him almost one year to get his green card RE-NEWED.

If you are LEGALLY here, you would pay the same prices as a citizen...depending on how long you had lived where you lived...just like a citizen. "Locals" are given college tuition breaks (called in-state tuition) only for state run colleges IF they have had residence in that state for a required period of time. They are given these breaks because their tax dollars have helped finance these colleges.

Illegals want access to that tax break even though they have not paid taxes (or, if they have, it's through committing the felony of identity theft.) Currently, illegal aliens are not given that "perk". As a legal resident, however, you would be required to pay taxes and, if you fit the residency requirements, would be eligible for that tax break.

It *is* as unhealthy as racism. No variety of discrimination is much less unacceptable than another. There look to be handiest 2 motives why folks do not like gays: a million) there is a passage in Leviticus which forbids guys from "mendacity" with different guys, and a pair of) they declare it is unnatural, given that no youngsters are produced. Those arguments are ridiculous for lots of motives, amongst which we now have: a million.) Most of the folks in the world don't be given the (Judeo-)Christian Bible because the "Word of God." (And although there was once majority believing so, they might haven't any proper to drive it on others) two.) If homosexuality have been unnatural, no person might be gay. People do not randomly begin having relationships and intercourse with others of the equal intercourse. There additionally a sort of species of animals that experience gay intercourse, and absolutely if it was once unnatural they would not be having it. It is terrible, and homophobes are infinitely extra disgusting and vile than we're. I consider your affliction.

The way you are talking, it sounds like a case of marriage fraud. To marry for the purpose only of becoming a citizen and getting breaks in school tuition.
