I am very happy with the number myself. Giving the fact that he could not take the #8 with him the next best number really is the #88. It is a part of his family and also he wanted a number with 8 in it. Why not add one more 8 to it. Go Jr in '08

it is a good thing. Mountain Dew has been paired with the number 88 before. Also Dale jr's Grandfather (Ralph) used the number when he raced for Petty Enterprises, so that number still has ties to the Earnhardt name without Teresa getting her mitts on it.

It'll be weird seeing him in the Mountain Dew car instead of the Budweiser car. But I guess that's just something everybody's gotta get used to. Just like the number...

Well...now that he's with a team that knows how to win, instead of being with his step mother, we should see some good improvement. I say, congrats and good luck to him. He's got some good drivers as his teammates now. Maybe they all can go 1, 2, 3 for the sprint cup (renamed from nextel) next season.

I think its pretty cool, not only does he have the number of a legend, but its like having his old 8 car. just with an added 8.
