Go to the dance with who ever you want. If your ex is there go and talk with her and let her know that you really wanted to go to the dance but didn't want to go alone. Tell her you aren't trying to make her feel bad and that the person you are with is just a date for the dance and nothing more.
Or, if your ex isn't going but will find out you went talk with her ahead of time.
You are to be commended for your thoughtfulness to an-others feelings.

I would go with friends. That 'saves' you both ways. You dont hurt your ex and you dont lead some girl on by going to homecoming, which she may think as a date. You can have fun without having someone of the opposite sex by your side. Good luck

If your ex girlfriends feelings are that important to you, then go alone. But before you do, you need to decide if you want this girl back. If you're going to try to patch things up, then go alone. If your relationship is dead and buried, with zero hope to try again, then take a date to homecoming. If she's upset in this case it's just because she wanted you to be alone.
Good luck to you.

Dear, you broke up, it is over.
Over is over, whether it happened a week ago or a month ago.
Do not go alone, take up an ivitation to go with one of the girls who has asked you.
You don't want to be alone, and then see your ex is with a date! Which she will be, as she will not want to look like she is missing you. You do not have to explain anything to her, and don't!

You broke up. You are entitled to enjoy your life without her in it. Go to the homecoming and enjoy yourself. What your ex thinks is her problem and not yours.

I agree, going alone will give you the opportunity to mingle with the crowd, rather than feel stuck to one chic's side. If you have other single friends that are going, I'd roll with them
