My kid 4.5 years, attending kindergarten from 8.30am - 2.30pm. They have a 15 mins break about 10nish.. which I usually provide either a banana or a pack of small bites like biscuits. Their lunch is from 12 noon - 12.30. My child is a rather slow eater. I usually pack 2 slices of bread, buttered and a slice of ham and cheese and just plain water.
I wonder how much is consider a healthy level (quantity) should a 4 years old child has for lunch?

My son is in kindergarten this year too and he usually takes a packed lunch. Today I packed him chicken nuggets, granola bar & a juice box. He gets tired of the same stuff all the time so I started packing nuggets or a slice of cheese pizza, he likes that stuff cold anyhow. Some other things he likes are~
PB & J
crackers & cheese
trail bologna
string cheese
fruit cups
low fat pudding cups
bottled water, they make those handy little bottles perfect for kids lunch boxes
What you're doing is fine, you could always add another piece of fruit or a granola bar to give a little variety.

My kid (age 27 years!) Gets sandwhich meat at cheese. He also usually gets a piece of fruit and some other snacks like Doritos or crackers. :D

Alright, all kidding aside...I think the sandwhich and water are a good idea, but why not pack a sliced apple for lunch too, or a few chips or peanut buttered crackers, or celery with peanut butter?

Even if she is a slow eater and you pack too much, thats better than not having enough.

My four year old typically has a sandwhich with meat and cheese and some chips and some milk and he's satisfied. Does she seem to be satisfied? Is she coming home and needing a snack immediately?

I usually pack my kids a half of a sandwich, yogurt or applesauce or fruit, pickle slice, and a few goldfish crackers or chips along with juicebox.

On the days I'm running late it might be a full sandwich, yogurt or applesauce or fruit and the crackers.

My advice to you is if you have a slow eater to pack a half a sandwich and another alternative like fresh fruit or chips/crackers just to offer a variety. Please do not be offended but would you want to eat only a sandwich everyday for lunch or have something else with it?

Hello...I also have a 5 year old who is in kindergarten all day!! He also gets a snack break around 10:00...I usually give him some type of fruit or muffins....then for lunch I give him juice, a sandwich, and chips or fruit snacks...he usually only eats the sandwich because he says he doesn't have enough time to eat!! I'd say what you are doing sounds fine!!

OMG we must have had the same mother. Liverwurst was ok, but not bologna, I still don't like it. and the cheese was that American processed stuff, and there was a chocolate Hostess cupcake - ALWAYS. Agree about apples, I had to peel one yesterday it had so much wax on it and it wouldn't wash off. I get fresh apples from growers about 50 miles from where I live every year and they always get eaten faster that the ones from the grocery.
