If the cable is RG-59 replace it with RG-6 because the wider center conductor on the RG-6 will probably make the connection better. Or get rid of push on cables if using those and replace with ones that screw on.

I assume that what you meant was that you know the plug is a problem because the amount of static varies when you wiggle it?

If it's the plug itself then it would not be easy for a person without soldering skills to fix.

Two ideas:

Check to see if the cable that screws into the plug has a problem. Perhaps the thin central wire is bent over or the outer ground part (the part with threads) has come loose from the cable.

If your TV has other video input jacks, then you could use an external TV tuner. Most people would just use an old VCR as a tuner. Also starting in Jan 08 the US government is going to have a coupon programs that will let people buy digital converter boxes for about $20. These will hook up to the TV video inputs and act as an external tuner for both the old analog and new digital broadcast channels.

If this isn't clear, perhaps you could edit your question to include the TVs make & model and what you are connecting to your TV (rabbit ears?)

I'm guessing you have a coaxial cable connector on the back of your TV. Try disconnecting the cable and rubbing the connectors on the cable with either a finger nail file or a rough pencil eraser. The wires do corrode after awhile. That might be all you need. After that, I'm no help at all.
