processes into place? In other words, do you think God is controlling everything, from gravity to the weather to evolution, or do you think he put the laws of the universe into place to work together intricately? OR do you just not believe in God or a Creator figure?
If you think God is controlling everything and science is just an illusion, please explain why you think so and why you don't believe God would put processes into place. Why wouldn't God create a process such as evolution?
Somebody also argued with me about the weather, saying God could stop a hurricane, tornado, or flood if he wanted to, but it would have vast global weather repurcussions. I think it could be argued that God gave us our brains to escape the weather before it threatens our lives, so why would he save us from a flood if we're stupid enough to build in a flood plain?
Any thoughts?
Thanks;-)

Let me try to be a little more clear about the first paragraph - do you believe that God is orchestrating everything like a puppet-master, or do you believe he put natural processes into place to play out? It seems like many people on this forum have the belief that God is deciding from minute-to-minute what will be going on everywhere, and just zaps it into being. Please explain your view and why...

I believe in God, and I believe that in His Wisdom He put in place everything that causes other things to occur. Meaning God implemented the storms and winds, etc., for reasons of preserving and feeding His Creations. He also knew that mankind would discover how these occurrences work through scientific means. All in all, His All Knowing.

I believe you are trying to make sense of the universe you observe around you in the context of human experience. I believe that is a futile endeavor. I do not believe humans can conceive of what divine "control" means because we only have human "control" to compare it to.
Having said that, I will share my vision of what God's interaction with creation means to me. I believe God exists outside of time and can observe every atom ever created throughout time from the big bang to the end of the universe. He sees the endpoint and the effects of the free will exerted by every soul that has ever existed and all that ever will. If the endpoint comes out not to His liking, He intervenes at all the places in history that will adjust things back to what He wants.
Creation does not exist for the purpose of making sense to the human mind. That is why God provided a guidebook in the Bible.

I understand what you're saying.
I don't think every single thing is by His Will.
I believe he made all the elements to this world and i believe he created thing to boggle us such as the Platypuss and Bumblebee.
I think he did give laws for everything to work together, but i also believe when he wants to intervene, he can and will.
I'm very much a believer in God and Jesus.

Good for you! You have a right, and a responsibility, to find your own path. You might want to consider attending a Unitarian Universalist Church, or speaking with a UU minister. The Seven UU Principals: The inherent worth and dignity of every person; Justice, equity and compassion in human relations; Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; A free and responsible search for truth and meaning; The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. The first, second, third, fourth (especially the fourth,) and seventh may apply to your situation. Good luck.

I believe that he created the Earth and universe, the life, and inhabitants upon it, and set about the natural processes for it all to continue as he desired it to.
Then, he created man, and told him that the earth and everything within it was his to rule and have dominion over. He also told man to keep the earth as he had created it.
Man decided that since it was his, then he could do what and however he wanted to do upon it. The natural processes occur to clean up behind man and to remind him of his way to keep the earth.
