Depends on the TV. There are some LCD's better than some Plasma's. Buy the one with the best picture. Just make sure its 1080p

A good friend of mine who is a pro at fixing theses new tech TVs, explained this subject to me this way : For every DLP display TV he fixes, he fixes 10 plasmas. For each LCD he fixes, he fixes 10 DLPs, which all boils down to 1 LCD fixed for 10 DLPs fixed & 100 plasmas BROKEN ( beyond repair) . So, you are 100% correct, LCD is the best, and Sony is the best LCD, then Panasonic, then Samsung. By the way, Panasonic is made by Sony, just a different company division. !

LCD is less expensive and less touchy, so I'd recommend that. If the screen is smaller than 32 inches, 720p is probably good enough. If you get bigger than 40 or 42,you can see the difference and 1080p is the way to go.

Here is something else to consider. LCDs have a plastic matte screen. They are very easy to break and when you do the set is junk. Not repairable , not warrantied. They are made of plastic to increase profits but it makes them extremely fragile. My inner panel on my 6 mo old $2000 Sony is broken by a little baby. The outer panel is fine , the TV is trash according to Sony.
