The rest of the world accepts it as fact (including religion to some extents), so why do North Americans (evangelicals to be exact) remain stuck on young earth creationism? I don't see any logic behind it and anything used to try to prove their claims has so many holes and repetitiveness.
Not a big issue, it was just something I'm curious about.

For those that say where does matter come from without a creator… The same can be said for the creationism theory.. where does God come from? Both theories have the same concept of something coming from nothing. Most people who believe in evolution admit that the big bang theory makes no sense, but there’s much more to evolution than just the big bang, or a fish deciding it wants to walk so grows legs (as creationists like to use as silly reasons why evolution is faulty)

One more thing, it’s disturbing to me that religious views are taught in priority in the public school system. Isn’t religion and state supposed to be separate? Even the traditionally Catholic countries in Europe have separated religion from anything state run and it works great..
On an unrelated note it’s amusing to me to see that America which is supposed to be so “godly” has much higher violent crime rates than pretty much every other developed country out there.

Because they fear what they do not know or do not understand. Also they fear that by letting their followers understand evolution it will convince them to question the bible and their religion. Remember, religion discourages questioning anything that way it is easier to control the masses

The education system here is appalling. Unless you go to school on either coast, preferably in the north, you are unlikely to get any kind of education comparable with that of Europe, or most other western nations. Even the post iron curtain countries have far better standards than the average US public school. It is a tragedy and an embarrassment.
Religion is pervasive and in some states totally supersedes the most basic of educational requirements.

This is because North America itself is fiction.
The nation and culture we think of as American is a mixture of many cultures and social customs.
No one of them is dominant or most important.
Evangelicals who actually don't believe in science represent a very small fraction of the good people of this nation.
You cannot argue with these folks using logic because that is the one thing they have denied and will not accept.
It is weird but it does exist.
It isn't the first time people have chosen to believe in something that makes no sense.

Because it is a theory.
Where did the matter for the big bang come from? Where does the "black energy" (unexplained additional energy) in the center of the universe come from?
While there is a lot of fact in the evolution theory, there is also lots of giant gaps and "leaps of FAITH" that need to be taken to get from the big bang to man. Way too many holes to call it fact.
When you honestly analyze both religion and evolution, you must conclude both live by faith. The big difference is religion acknowledges this fact and evolutionist don't.

Everybody knows that the big Bozo with the magic wand Mumbo-jumboed up the whole universe . That makes sense. This evolution story takes too long to study , and too long to happen . One wave of the magic wand is quicker and easier .

It's due to a over taxed educational system and the misplaced belief that evolution/science is like religion.

It comes down entirely to under-education and preachers with a motive. It's also the case in Turkey.
Oh yeah and didn't you know that EVILution has more holes in it than a sieve? xD Can't beat that kind of rhetorical reasoning...

In most cases it is ignorance. We simply don't teach science correctly in many ways. It leads to people who don't even know what a theory is (i.e. the "just a theory" argument).

I don't think that the rest of the world is comfortable with the idea that their ancestors are chimps. Has anyone found fishes with feet to prove the evolution theory?
I'd rather be created by somebody most knowing...
By the way, I am from Asia.

Religious dogma. It happens elsewhere, Islamic countries for instance.
