i think its plain flour u need but not 100% sure i usually use aunt bessies ready to bake as i can never get my own mix to rise and they are pretty foolproof and taste near enough as good as home made.

hi, being a yorkshire lass born and bred:
self raising flour does not work - the batter mix will not rise - you need plain flour
DO NOT USE milk - just cold water. milk will make them stodgy
if you have any cornflour - try using that with 'a bit' of self raising - it could work.

Self Raising flour generally doesn't work, it's got too much raising agent in it and will make your yorkshire pudding look and taste rather strange

No, its got to be plain flour and try using 2 eggs, salt and pepper.Make sure the batter is not too thick or thin and (bit thicker than pancake batter) and make sure the oil or fat in the tin is sizzling hot. Then enjoy......

Plain flour - egg - milk and a few drops of water and a pinch of salt.

Sorry... self rising flour won't work for yorkshire puddings. Contrary to what one might think, it'll actually cause them to turn out flat & soggy. I learned that from experience. But here's a site that confirms my experience.

Make your own - they are so much worth it.
It has taken me years of practise.
Use one egg for every one ounce of flour, - -trust me it works, - and allow your mixture to "stand" for at least half an hour, if I have time and think in front I leave it overnight then, whisk the heck out of it again before the smokey hot oven. Good Luck.

No!! Self raising flour will make yorkshire puddings that are more like dumplings - they will be really heavy and stodgy

No you cant - for some reason they taste nasty, do not rise and turn out a bit like flat biscuits. I tried it myself once when i had no plain flour - disaster!
