No! Not Jesus but Saul.
It was Saul, name later changed to Paul who was the televangelist. He was the guy who wanted a new Judaism, one in which the long awaited 'messiah' had actually arrived.
The Jesus figure was almost certainly the construct of Saul.
It should be noted that probably every collection of 20 or more people calling themselves a 'tribe' had a messianic expectation.
Saul apparently made an effort to establish this new version of Judaism. He may have been a sort of tax collector and traveled about extensively.
It was not until a couple of centuries later that the “New Jews” began to be called Christians after the supposed messiah. The religion owes its very survival to a Roman Emperor whose primary motivation appears to have been the desire to avoid anarchy. So, politics has been involved with religion since the beginning. This may be why it is so difficult to honor the wishes of our Founding Fathers who realized that to mix the two would be, and is, a drastic error in judgment.

That would be Paul, who took over Christianity from the disciples Jesus had hand chosen and taught to carry on after he was gone. You know, Paul, that guy who never met Jesus.

Evangelist maybe. But to be a televangelist, he'd have to appear on television, and I highly doubt t.v. was around in his time.

I don't think so. Jesus taught love and truth and he didn't force anyone to listen or follow him and he didn't ask for money.
