So I have a dentist appointment today and I am getting my crown seated. I'm worried about how they take off the temporary. Does it hurt?

I think I will lie and tell you that someone putting two hands in your mouth and your opening wide, giving you a shot to numb the pain, and then removing the crown (which, no lie, won't hurt), and then repairing it will not hurt you a bit. Just sit back, relax, close your eyes and take a nice walk on a beach, either lake, ocean, or stream, in your mind. Bring an ipod or something to listen to soft calming music if your dentist does not. It will be over before you know it. The procedure is what I do, except I go fishing in my mind. The alternative is something to knock you out (sodium pentothal once). I've done that, only I needed someone to drive me home.

It hurts some - depending on what condition the tooth underneath is. Moreso, it makes your jaw sore because the dentist has to use pressure against your jaw to get the temp off without lots of pain.

My dentist told me to take a pain killer that had an anti-inflamatory component for any ongoing pain that day.

It's not fun, but you'll be okay. Besides once that permanent crown has a chance to set up correctly, you'll be thrilled you had it done.
