When my fiance and one of my best friends are around, they tend to just listen and only say something when they really feel a need to. They are looked at as laid back, mellow, smart, etc. I tend to be more conversational but find that people sort of poo-poo me sometimes and have less respect. How do I go about changing this without people thinking I am trying to "keep information" from them. to go from being a talker to being more quiet.. which I prefer anyway! I am not as outgoing as people think! Hope this makes sense!! :)

I find that it isn't how often you speak; but rather, what you say, that earns respect.

It's not that you should be quiet, but strive to be more of a listener.

Ask a few questions when others talk and sincerely try to take an interest in what they say. You can learn tremendous amounts about others by being a conscious listener.

Unless you are a compulsive talker or chit-chat the ears off people with vacuous small-talk, you are an asset to any party as a conversation-friendly guest.

Hi Hon..
Why would you want to change? You are who you are..And that's fine..
It's fine to be conversational. as long as you're not bad mouthing anyone,or using vulgar language.
It's also okay to be quiet when you're listening to someone..
that's how you learn other peoples views and reasoning on issues..
You fiance and friend are laid back..But that doesn't mean you have to be..
If you, your fiance and your best friend were all laid back, and basically only spoke when spoken to, that would create a very boring, dull atmosphere..Don't change Hon..Continue to be yourself..Besides, that's probably one of the reasons your fiance loves you
Opposites do attract..Thank Goodness!

The Bible says even a fool seems wise when his mouth is shut. Your personality is naturally conversational, mine is too....the only thing you have to learn is when people who you know have more knowledge than you or are wiser than you speak, you be quiet. I love to talk, and I love to share what I know. I'm 27, when I'm at the Barber Shop and the older Gentleman speak, I'm silent. When I'm around a group of older men, I'm silent. When I'm around a group of older Women, I'm silent. There's not much about life I have to say to them as to where it would enlighten them, however they have much to share with me. Just learn the right times to be quiet, other than that...with your peers....Be You! If you talk Sweetheart, then TALK! Have fun! If your Boyfriend and Bestfriend are quiet and then you get quiet too....Where did the party go?

Generally, yes. People are too loudmouthed and boisterous today, quite often.
