most skis have wood cores and are wrapped with fiberglass.
they type of wood used in the core gives the ski its flex. others have foam cores. Many also have metal bands sandwiched into their core to make them stiffer and have more pop.

Skis usually have a wood or foam core, and the thickness and material used in the core has a large impact on the flex. Skis also have layers of metal (usually, but not always), a composite layer like fiberglass, base material, a layer of graphics, and a topsheet to protect the ski.
