First if you are intent on drinking, do yourself a favor every time you drink - designate a driver or drink at home - where you are safe. Second, drink something that will not totally obliterate you. Third only and ever drink in the company of someone you can trust. Fourth, before you even think about drinking, make sure you eat a substantial meal. Lastly, try a great red wine because it has antioxidants in it that are very heart healthy. Check out the info on this site regarding Resveratrol.

Try the Pinot Noir Willamette Valley or Whole Cluster - these are my favorite - pair it with some great spicy food.

Try a few drinks from the supermarket at home with friends, it's far cheaper than the pub and combine it with a meal, even if it's just a takeaway pizza . For starters a spritzer is refreshing, that's white wine and soda with ice &lemon, many still enjoy a martini/ cinzano with tonic though Noilly Pratt is far better. Spanish cava is good value serve it cool and add orange juice if you find it a bit sharp, that's called Buck's Fizz. Do experiment , much is an acquired taste and remember the mistake we have all made! We can drink quicker than the alcohol takes effect so take your time and agree with your friends not to buy rounds if there are a lot of you. Have fun I doubt you'll ever touch rollacola again!

As your new to alcohol I'm guessing your still young (underage perhaps?). My advice would be to try the clear spirits first, in moderation of course. Vodkat (no not vodka) is a good start as it's only about 22% abv. Mix it with coke or some other mixer and see how you get on. Personally I like most drinks although Vodka is my favourite.

A word of advice.....DONT mix!. Whilst it might be a buzz at the time the hangover in the morning isn't. Trust me I, just like many others, have been there.

I'd stay off the spirits and alcopops, and as many here suggest, develop a taste for real ale, or German or Belgian bottled beer.. Or perhaps Wine, (with soda or lemonade) I like the idea above about having something to eat with it, with some friends, that sounds lovely

keep off the spirits. Alcohol uses up a lot of the worlds agricultural land wastefully. There is an environmental issue about both Alcohol and Smoking.

From the British example it wasts lives and destroys families.

Be moderate in all things - there is some good in it and much harm...

Lets be serious here, you all know that the best answer to that is nothing! You dont need to drink for any reason, if you really feel you have to , a glass of red wine once in a while is more than adequate.

Start with the weakest, such as a small beer, and do not drink too much. Also make sure you eat something beforehand or you will get drunk very quickly. You could also try alcopops too. remember though they are full of calories like most alcohol. And please, do NOT drink alone, or you are likely to drink more and have no one to check you are OK.
