City Airport is the closest but flights to and from City Airport are extremely expensive. Gatwick is quite long in time for travelling from. To get from Gatwick means a drive along the M23, the M25 and then the A2 for the quickest route. Alternatively, it's around 35 minutes be train to London Bridge, 20 to 25 minutes from London Bridge to North Greenwich Underground Station (Jubilee Line). Total time around 1 hour plus up to 15 minutes waiting for the train at Gatwick. From Heathrow, it's around 40 minutes (Piccadilly Line) to Green Park and a further 20 minutes (Jubilee Line) to North Greenwich Station. Total time 1 hour plus around two to three minutes waiting for trains. From Stanstead, you can expect a couple of hours driving along the M11 and then through East London to the Blackwall Tunnel. The O2 Arena is just at the other side of the Blackwall but if there has been a breakdown or accident in the tunnel, expect up to 4 hours stuck in traffic. It will take around 3 hours to drive from Luton. In both distance and travel time, Heathrow is the closest.

darrenroxie211 - Stanstead! Are you crazy? First of all, the M11 has major roadworks and delays can be up to two hours. Next problem is at the Stratford By-Pass, just as you are passing Stratford, you get in one of the worst daily jams in the UK. It normally takes around 20 minutes just to get from Stratford to the entrance of the Blackwall Tunnel. It's not uncommon to be stuck in traffic for 1 or 2 hours at the best of times. However, any accidents in the Blackwall and you will not see South London for a minimum of 4 hours. It's not uncommon for the tunnel to be closed and therefore you have to try to get to the Rotherhithe. That can take many hours as well, as diverted traffic merges with normal Rotherhithe traffic. I know this too well as I actually live between the two tunnels and witness this congestion / gridlock very regular. Heathrow is the best airport and the most convenient. Anyway, the only reason you prefer Stanstead is because that's all you can afford to fly from. Stanstead is mainly used by "Budget Airlines" and "Chartered Airlines" (for cheapos)as well as Hijacked aircraft.
