I am 95% positive he has used it several times. I leave my wallet out on my desk and I know when I've been sleeping. My online statement will say I've been to McDonalds, walmart, etc...with only small transactions. The time/date is when I was sleeping. I don't want to press charges, but I'd like to find out before I go accusing him because of course he will deny. Is there any way I can get surveillance tapes from these places to see if it really is him? It could be someone else that comes by the house, or maybe I sleepwalk or just have a really really bad memory...but that is HIGHLY unlikely...

If you know you did not make these transactions then you need to contact the fraud department of your credit card company.

When you talk to their fraud department they will ask you some information. One of these questions will be your appearance. They will also ask you if you might know the person who did the charges and their appearance. They will then contact the stores to get the tapes. If they can find a match they will go after that person. If you decide to not go after him, then you will be responsible for the charges.

Is there really a doubt in your mind that you might have done it? If so, you should do nothing except try and prevent it from happening.

You should be keeping track of your credit card purchases, anyway. I keep mine inside a check register, and every time I use it, I write down how much I spent and where I spent it. It prevents unwelcome surprises at the end of the month.

Also, you should get some sort of a safe or strongbox, put it in a drawer, and keep your wallet there when you are not using it.

If you find that you haven't made many purchases, you should notify your bank, and they'll turn it over to the police.

I'd get a new roommate, too.

Let's look at this situation...
- transactions on your card during times you were asleep
- you are 95% positive he's the person who used your card
- don't want to press charges

With those things being true, it doesn't matter if you have videotaped evidence. You don't want to press charges so don't even accuse him since you know he's going to deny it. If you want your credit card company to eat the charges, they are going to want to know who it was, and you're obviously not going to tell them, so don't bother contacting them.

What are you really wondering about? You know it's your roommate using your card. The logical thing to do now is to keep him from getting access to your card any more. Don't keep your wallet where he can get to it. And in case you leave cash laying around, make sure you protect that also since he may take your cash once he can't get to your credit card any more.

There is a really easy solution to your problem. Don't leave you wallet on your desk if you suspect that your room mate is using it. Secondly, if you were asleep when these transactions were made, obviously you didn't do it and it would have to be your flat mate. DERRRR

The only way that those businesses will give you access to their security tapes is by court order.

AND STOP LEAVING YOUR WALLET OUT FOR YOUR ROOMMATE TO FIND!

If you report this to the police, then yes, they will probably check McD's security tapes. I don't think McD's would let you have access to the tapes.

Ask to see the slips from the transactions. I bet they still make you sign them.
