I do not HAVE a soul.
I AM a soul.
At Genesis 2:7 it says: "And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man ***came to be*** a living soul" [stars added by me]
Someone once asked when discussing this very topic with a friend: "...have a soul/Is a soul? What's the big difference?"
To which was replied. "Now look across your field to your donkey and tell me the difference: You HAVE a jackass/you ARE a jackass."
I REALLY hope that doesn't offend someone because when I heard this I thought it was very cute (it was not originally or now said to insult anyone but to show the difference in application).
Now, if you don't believe in the Bible, the topic would be more difficult...

You are a soul
The spirit of/from God is the live of every soul [ now from Adam born in the imperfections of sin for a short life ], to death Gen.6:3; Psm.90:10; Eccl.3:19-21; 12:3; James 2:26; Isa.42:5; Job 34:14,15; Psm.104:29,30; Eze.37:12-14 [ the 12 tribes of Israel will be in their own land again ]; 1Cor.15:22-28; As in Adam we all die, even so in Christ shall all be made live. Living under the promise of salvation by resurrection to life and all made new again. Rev.20:1-6,12,13; 2Pet.3:13; Rev.21:1-5; John 3:36 !7;3;

a soul is a personal concept and it depends on how you perceive life... do you a religion? coz religion dictates how one perceives the existence of a soul. i am a catholic christian and i believe that beyond this body is an entity that controls everything like emotions, logic and thinking and conscience. scientists say that the brain houses the soul. if a persons brain stopped, then he/she is legally dead... and i believe that the sould does move on to the next dimension.

I don't "have" a soul.
I *am* a soul.
its simply a question of awareness.
why do you identify yourself as your physical body?
I woudl assume that your personal experiences lead you to belive that your "self" is the physical body and have not had any experiences to lead you to belive there is more beyoind that.
can you conceive that perhaps, other people, have DIFFERENT experiences, which lead them to a DIFFERENT conclusion?
if you talk to a person who was born blind, does that make you any less able to see?
if you were one person with full color vision, in a room with 6 people who were born without any sight at all, and 3 people who could only see general light and dark, and no colors or precise shapes, would you doubt your ability to see sharply, in color? not likely. so why would I doubt my experiences?

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

My concept of what a soul is remains flexible enough that I can at least postulate the existence of a human soul. I am a human, as far as I can tell, ergo . . . but I don't claim to know, only that this is my working hypothesis.
Good enough for me.

Have you been to a funeral and seen the person there and have seen it is an empty shell? And what made that person *alive* besides the body is was housed in? The brain? Ahhh don't *think* so.
