I got a ticket from the police 2 years ago when I was 15 and a half. I am now 18 and I recently got my license, but when I applied for auto insurance it was 150 dollars more than usual because of the point court gave me for jaywalking 2 years ago. Did they make a mistake or can they really do that? It had nothing to do with driving! Now, I can't drive because I can't afford my insurance and they told me it'll take 3 years until it's completely off my record. I'm screwed! Anybody have any suggestions on who I should complain to or if they can really do that! It'll help a lot! thanks.

clearly they can because it's there.. that just means you need to do more legwork now to find a different insurance carrier. try progressives website. even if they don't have the lowest price for you, their rate quotes will tell you who does.

Jaywalking is not a moving violation. Therefore it does not appear on your driving record. You do not lose points off you drivers license for it, and your insurance company would not even know about it.

Your insurance is $150 more because you are an inexperienced driver. Not because of the jaywalking ticket.

If you got a point on your license - then yes, your rates go up.

After all.....if you can't operate your feet in a legal/safe manner (by not breaking the law jaywalking) - why should they think you are going to operate a 2000lb automobile in a legal/safe manner?

You are right. It had nothing to do with driving. Find another insurance company

Obviously they CAN do it, because they did do it!

Actions have consequences, and if you break the rules, you'll just have to deal with what happens when you get caught.

Welcome to the world of adult responsibility!
