What's that going to do? It would just give the different religious factions free reign to target a particular zone and be guaranteed of striking the group they despise. Also, fanatacism would be more concentrated in this arrangement, wouldnt it?
I think for the long run, it cant be the right approach.

It is not only a good idea but one that would have been in place by now but for Bush's dream of maintaining what Saddam had and rule it better. It will be three for a while as soon as the Allies pull out. Seven minutes after the forces leave all the alQaeda in Iraq will be dead, the Sunni's will set up their republic as will the Shiite. The Kurds already have their own country, simply undeclared. When they declare the Turks and the Syrians will invade. The USA will have a sixth chance to betray the only people in the middle East that have always stood by them. They will stand by as the Kurds are killed again. After all what's a broken promise or hundred.

It would work as well as it did with India. After it was split up into India and Pakistan it only resulted in several wars and a nuclear arms race.
The politicians in Washington are looking for a cheap way out. They are trying to do what was done in Bosnia. They forget that the three ethnic groups in Bosnia had already set up their separate areas through ethnic cleansing and no one was forced to move. In Iraq you would be forcing millions to leave their homes and move to their new ethnic area.

In theory, it could happen... say a big Kurdish state, a Sunni state and a Shiite state. But then again, most of them got by just fine before the invasion - I don't think proximity to other ethnic/religious groups is the problem here.
Besides, if countries were defined by ethnic and religious groups, Africa would consist of thousands of countries, the United States wouldn't be a collection of Disunited States and... well, use your imagination.

Absolutely.
As long as Oil revenue was fairly distributed and all three states had a common army with mixed units and central training facilities for the common defense.
All operating under Strong State governments with a loose confederation government for the common good fo the three states.
It has worked very well in the Balkans and would work well in Iraq as well.

Yes, Kurds are doing well so let them reap the rewards. If the other two race wants to kill eachother, then separate them. I think we should have three separate states in Iraq because they can't get along. Provide peace now and then they can get together in the future if they so chose.

i do no longer think of that this self-important Senator has the impressive to even recommend the style of plan. After the Civil conflict, did France or England come dashing in to divide us up? The allies' plan in Iraq is to make the Iraqi human beings and defense force able to protecting their own peace, and making their own judgements.

No. You can make them into 3 separate nations and they would still fight. The Kurds in the north, maybe they could have their own country, but the Shites and Sunnies would still fight and Al-Queda and Iran would still be instigating it.
