Do you really want to know if the Bible is the word of God? Go to a gospel and follow this time-tested method for uncovering the mystery of the Word of God: "the child of God (that's me) takes the Word of God (the Scriptures) into the presence of God (prayer) and lets the Holy Spirit of God (the Author) make that Word come to life for me and, more importantly, in me."
I guarantee you God will speak to you through the pages of the Bible.

“To him who believes, no explanation is necessary; to him that believeth not, no explanation is possible.”
Edit: Lisa, the authors of the gospels used oral and written sources known as the Q and L source.
That's why the 3 synoptic gospels are very similar to each other.

This is a very common question posed, in this YA section. None the less, it is a very good question ! I'm a Chrisitian and once upon a time, asked the same thing. What I have found out is this. The word Bible is derived from the Greek word "Biblos" meaning "book". When you place the word Holy in front of it, you have the Holy Bible or Holy book.
The Holy Bible is the world's number 1 best seller. It is a book used by Chrisitians, containing both, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Without the Old Testament, the New Testament could not be understood as intended. The Bible is unique in a special way. It has survived for thousands of years and it is the only book that deals with the past, present and the future of the human creation.
Its integrity - its reliability can be known or proven by the application of the instructions therein. It works !!! Further; the Bible was written by men, who were inspired by the Spirit of God - not by opinions set to words. The Bible contains history, instruction on living, and prophecy regarding the future for us all. To read the Bible and comprehend it ... you require the Holy Spirit from God to decipher it for you. If you lack it [the Holy Spirit] the Bible will appear as a bunch of fables, contradictions and stupidity - God inspired it to be written that way, for a reason. In the Book of Isaiah, you read about the earth being round, thousands of years prior to it being "common knowledge" ( see: the Book of Isaiah, chapter 40, verse 22, re:"circle of the earth"). Archeoligists claim this Book of the Holy Bible, as being thousands of years old.

GOD is self-revealing; if we truly acceot and believe the account of the existence of God as revealed in the inspired WORD OF GOD, the Holy Bible, then we do not have to lack knowledge, truth, understanding, or clarification, of what is the Nature of GOD, or the Word of GOD. Stop saying no one can comprehend GOD. I CAN, AND YOU CAN TOO. The (self-revealing) WORD of GOD says so.
HOW DO WE KNOW WE CAN TRUST THE “WORD OF GOD”?
We can only trust the Word of God if we trust the Holy Bible. There is great spiritual truth in what I have just stated. If you do not believe the Holy Bible from which we are and have been taught contains the Sacred and Divine “Word of GOD” {Joh:1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh:1:2: The same was in the beginning with God} nothing will ever convince you, and God will forever be an unsolvable mystery to you.
There is no other literature or reference material available to mankind today, which relates to the Nature and Revealed Activity of GOD, more accurately than that of the HOLY Christian BIBLE.

The Bible was written by people inspired by God. The 'word of God' is something entirely different.

Once you start reading the Bible, particularly the New Testament, you will see that it was written by men who knew Jesus and loved Him. They witnessed His miracles and walked with Him. They saw Him get nailed to the cross and watched Him die. They saw him alive 3 days later and touched the nail holes in His hands and feet.
There were WITNESSES who knew Jesus. Those witnesses wrote the Bible. But the only way you can be sure it is the Word of God, is to get to know Him yourself.
God bless!

Don't be afraid to question it .... many an atheists has
If people are lied to long and hard enough it becomes the truth ? to be sure a child knows what generosity is even after his faith in Santa being real is dismissed such should be the same for the lies of the supernatural when displaced with enough understanding in knowledge . Morality survives the lies and adults realize.
"If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed."

Funny, the very first book in the new testament was written 60 years AD, yet the writer was still able to quote word for word Jesus.
He must have either a very good memory, or an (more logical) imagination.

A bible is book written by a group of men. The lack of female authors should give you a clue about its origins.
