controlling what you eat to control the things you cant control is silly, isn't it.

Its like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.

Anorexia is a disease that must be treated by professionals. Friends and family are most effective if they simply tell the person that they love them.

This link should answer any general questins that you have.

At the bottom there is a section called "External Links". There are a number of very useful links here.

Please keep in mind that the primary physical problem in this disorder (as in all anxiety disorders) is a lack of serotonin in the brain. Trying to reason with a person usually fails when their mind is incapable of understanding what is being said.

Anorexia is generally considered to fall into the class of Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders.

OCD and Anorexia are frequently comorbid.

I listed the link to OCD because OCD is an anxiety disorder and must be treated with medication that increases serotonin.

I know that I have provided many links that may be confusing, but I believe that in order to successfully help a person with anorexia you really have to know what you are doing or you can make things a lot worse.

This last link and the advise is very important. In order to successfully treat anorexia serotonin levels in the brain must first be raised. Some people may disagree with this statement, but I believe it to be true. The problem is that most serotonin medications (SSRI or SSNRI) can reduce apatite to an extreme degree. Essentially, prescribing these medications can kill the person before benefits are seen. However, the section of the following article called "Dietary Supplements" (2/3rds of the way down) lists a number of natural supplements that can be as effective as pharmaceutical medications.

Specifically, some of these supplements are:

The biggest problem with my advise is that many if not most doctors are only trained in prescribing medication that is sold by BIG PHARMA companies. However, it is generally not advisable to take these supplements without the supervision of a competent doctor. Qualified doctors are often hard to find. Many doctors graduate medical school and fail to continue their education that was inadequate in the first place. The following book is written by a practicing physician and researcher who is at the cutting edge of his field. The following book provides valuable information about supplements and anxiety.

Go see a counselor. Anorexia is extremely detremental to your body and mind and the faster you can get help the better. It is very hard to fight it the longer you have been battling with it. My mom has had it for over thirty years and it has been very disruptful to our family. Bottom line: get help in one form or another, soon!

I hope that they can come back to reality. If they eat properly and get some exercise, they will be healthyier and happier
even if they are not as thin as they would like to be.

Nothing except if I could help in any way. Encourage help, but don't force it on them so that maybe they will make the decision on their own.

I might say..........

"Thanks to your unique disease, countless people will think
you that you are skinny, emaciated, skeletal, unhealthy, near death, but you'll laughing to yourself and thinking 'they're all nuts!' Get ready, it's gonna be one twisted nightmare of a ride and you'll be lucky if you get off alive."

I would ask them, what made you choose to anorexic?

Not everyone has the same reason.

What you see and what you are, are two completely different things. Life is full of illusions, but it's the realities that make us who we are.
