if heaven and hell exist, would there only be one type of demon and angel, or would there be different specialized varieties, like for battle and such?

Yes, there are different types of angels. Here are a few verses that describe some of them. Unfortunately I could not find any verses about different orders of demons, but I would imagine that since demons are fallen angels, that they would have a similar order.
Isa 6:2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
Isa 6:3 And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Jud 1:9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

There are many different kinds angels and demons. Most exist only in the mind - But that doesn't mean they aren't real.
