I have debated many young-earth creationists. If any of you would like to question me about evolution, please send me a message through YA (with your e-mail if you do not have message replies enabled)
It's not ignorance. There's an organized effort to convince people that scientists have better evidence for creationism than evolution and old-earth and old-universe theories. Not only that, they are taught from the cradle that not only IS creation true, it HAS to be true or they are rejecting God.
The truth is that the current Pope and the last Pope affirmed there is no contradiction between evolution and Christianity. The ~200 members on the AiG creation scientist list pale in comparison to over 800 PhD scientists named Steve, Steven, and Stephanie convinced of evolution.
Flood geology is not consistent with what is observed. Radiometric dating matches tens of thousands of years of annual ice core layers, varves, and volcanic dust in the layers.
if you would like me to explain this in more detail or in simpler terms, please send me e-mail

definitely more than 6000 years.
the planet existed for a long time before God created humans to live on it.for instance genesis 1:1 says:in the beginning God created heavens and earth. obviously He did not use pre-existed matter otherwise it wouldn't have been the 'beginning'. But He did use pre-existed matter when He 'formed' the animals and later on humans out of the dust, what we turn into when we died.
It could have been millions of years from the creation of planet earth and its preparation.
remenber galileo when he said that the earth revolve around the sun he was taken as an ignorant. And he himself said: the holy scriptures as well as nature come from Divine Word(...) two Truths can not contradict each other.
when science seems to contradict the bible it's just a matter of time, patience, and research and we'll get to the same comclusion as Galileo did.

"Almost everyone now believes that the universe, and time itself, had a beginning at the big bang."-Stephen Hawkings.
"A proponent of the big bang, at least if he is an atheist, must believe that the...universe came from nothing and by nothing."-Anthony Kenny.
"The beginning seems to present insuperable difficulties unless we agree to look on it as frankly supernatural."-Eminent scientist Sir Arthur Eddington.
If you took all the carbon in the universe and put it on the face of the earth, allowed it to chemically react at the most rapid rate possible and left it for a billion years, the odds of creating just one functional protein molecule would be one chance in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
Basicly it would be more likely that a tornado whirling through a junk yard and accidentally assembling a fully functional Boeing 747.
In other words that odds for all practical purposes are zero.
"That's why even through some people who are not educated in this field still believe life emerged by chance, scientist simply do not believe it anymore."-Sir Fredrick Hoyle

Since matter cannot be created or destroyed, I would say that the matter making up the Earth is without a time designation, well at least since the Big Bang. But, I wonder what was before that ;)

count the number of stars in the sky.
then divide it by 2.38797876 then multiply it by 100
raise to the power of 10.
that's how old planet earth is.

Why do you bother to ask a question that you think you already know the answer to, and then put some body down for an answer you think they are going to give because it will differ from yours? Thats arrogant and rude, isn't it.

Half-a-Times =49 X 20 = 980 years (7th Age, Seal)
Times = 49 x 40 = 1960 years (6th Age, Seal)
Times = 49 x 40 =1960 years (5th Age, Seal)
A Time
Time = 49 x 4,000 years = 196, thousand (4th Age, Seal)
Time = 49 x 40,000 years = 1,96 million (3rd Age, Seal)
Time = 49 x 400,000 years = 19,6 million (2nd Age, Seal)
Time = 49 x 4,000,000 years = 196 million 1st Age, Seal)
The earth is 7.7 Billion years old

I have no clue. I believe the planet was organized with other materials already in existance so it is possible the actual earth could be 6000 years but the materials much older.
We also dont know how long adam and eve lived in the garden of eden. It could have been a billion years for all we know. We also dont know how long a day is to God.
So sorry, the concept of carbon dating disproves the Bible or God just isnt true.
