Hello, I've read your question along with the answers you've gotten thus far. First of all, if your mom refuses to take you to a doctor, do see a school nurse or someone with some medical experience. I really do not think it's anything serious.
The odds are in your favor due to your age and being sun smart. Now having said that, I have gone through nursing school and I am a medical lab tech. I also have a history of skin cancer. Melanoma is the worse type. Fortunately, it is also less common than Basal cell and Squamous cell. Basal cell is is the most common and less serious of the three it basically never metastizes. Squamous cell is the second most common it is a little more likely to metastize but normally it remains localized for a very long time. Melanoma can kill quickly if not treated in the early stage. Unfortunately, the rate of melanoma is on the rise particularly in the younger
population. So yes your concern is justified. But, like I stated before the odds of this being anything serious is slim.
My suggestion to you is to explain to your mom how worried you are and perhaps she will take you to a dermatologist if only to alleviate your fears. Do try to see a dermatologist instead of a general practioner if possible. DO NOT ALLOW SOME OF THE PEOPLE TO SCARE YOU. My gut feeling is that you're going to be just fine. Just do whatever you can to see a doctor to alleviate your fears. Best of luck and if you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me.

I am guessing you really know how small one milimeter is... If the dark patch of skin is really just 1mm in size and has not grown, and there is just one, I would not be concerned about it. You can certainly wait until you have a chance to visit a doctor for another reason, and just ask him or her then.
With that said, I am neither a medical doctor, not have I actually seen what you are talking about. School nurse seem like a good idea. Calling a doctor won't help at all, as unless he/she sees your skin, he/she would just be guessing.
Also, on-line, there is no way for anyone to help you, obviously.

Most areas these days have skin cancer clinics and they are usually free. So try and find one in your area. Yes be worried.
If its a skin cancer it can get into your blood stream and kill you if its left too late.
People die of skin cancer because they think that only a small thing like that can't kill you. But its what it does when it gets into your blood stream that does the damage. Little on the surface but big problems underneath where you can't see.
People with natural red and blond hair are usually at more risk because their skin is more sensistive to UV rays.
Cover up more in the future as well. Never go near a tanning salon either.

I believe that there are three characteristics of a "bad" freckle or mole.
1. It's asymmetrical.
2. It's multiple colors (more than 2 according to a dermotologist I know)
3. ... I can't really remember this one.

May be because your mum knows its nothing serious or nothing to worry about, its just a tiny freckle thats all. What wrong with that.Dont get stressed and worked up about it. Your parents know its not serious.

Ask the school nurse to take a look at it. It's better to be safe than sorry. If a school nurse isn't available at your school, ask the school if there is someone they could refer you to.
