Staying "golden" , or "gold" is an old fashioned expression of the 80s. It means remain pure, like gold. It is the highest standard of purity of thought and mind, perfect and valued forever.
When you say that to a friend, what you want to say is you consider this person affectionately, and wish him or her only the best in this world..
