I've tried to dye over it 3 times with light brown shades. I've also used ColorOops hair stripper. It only worked for the roots of my hair. The rest stayed black. I would use it again, but it smelled like rotten eggs.
Would you recommend bleaching it to get the back out and then re-dyeing it?

I used Revlon ColorSilk. Not sure if it's henna or not, but it makes my hair feel even better than it did before dyeing it.
Also, the ColorOops stuff was extra strength, so I have the feeling there isn't really anything else that will work.

Well, if a stripper didnt work bleach probably wont either. Do you remember what brand it was that you last colored it with??? Depending on what you used, if it has henna in it, theres no way to get it out. Now the stripper you used is for permanant color right?? Some strippers are only for semi-permanant. So just make sure you used the right one. If you did than it was probably henna that you used last time. Ive seen it dozens of times in the salon. Its actually happend to my clients. They either lie about what they used or dont remember. So you try to lift out the color and then find out they used henna. If you can remember what you used last I could give you better advice!!!! Speaking from 8 years as a colorist!!
Yep, its the colorsilk. Colorsilk is Henna. Ive actually seen it alot of times with colorsilk in my clients. And to be honest before I became a colorist I had used colorsilk and the same thing happend to me. Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do. I know it stinks and I hate to give you the bad news but just being honest. How much outgrowth do you have?? You can try putting a semi- permanant on your outgrowth to match the rest until most of it grows out. With semi permanant, it wont matter, it will fade out and wont be permanant. Than that way you can look half way decent as it grows and once most of its out then you could color it. Sorry, just make sure to stay away from henna colors. Research it first next time if you do it yourself.

Color on color (usually) only goes darker. So dyeing and dyeing isn't going to do it. Best bet is to suck it up and go to a salon and have it professionally taken care of, but here's a few tricks of the trade. You should try to wash it several times with a dish washing liquid (dawn, joy, cheap stuff, it's all the same.) Then put a conditioning treatment on it and leave it OVERNIGHT and rinse in the morning. If your roots are lighter after the stripper you used, I would suggest (against my better judgment which would be go to the salon) is get a box color and JUST do your roots!!! If you put it all over it will make the darker parts even darker. The color will fade within a couple of weeks and it won't be as dark. Also use a shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair, it will help lighten it up. Then another conditioning treatment (something with protein in it since your hair is going through torture.) If you can't handle the dark until it fades, use a highlighting kit and that will break up the dark. A few words of advice....DON'T color your own hair, results are usually tragic.

DO NOT attempt to strip it your self with drugstore merchandise... your great wager is to visit a salon that's skilled on this! Even then, it's going to harm your hair plenty... however the salon can do a little deep conditioning and propose a product for deep conditioning when they do it. It may be probably the most everlasting colour for hair dye and does not wash out or fade out as without problems as different much less harsh colours, even though you employ constant shampoos. If you do not wish to harm it in any respect, stay up for it to develop out?

Stripping your hair can be very damaging. Only a professional colorist should do this, especially after using retail colors on it 4 times. It's in a very fragile condition and could break off if not treated carefully. I would be unlikely to do anything other than professional strengthening and conditioning.
I recommend you not blow dry or use any heat treatments on your hair for styling. Use only professionally recommended products on your hair and wash it in cool water until the colorist says your hair is strong enough to do so.
Do not bleach it, or do any other retail, home applied products at this time.

You know what, That happend to me and it wouldnt change. Your just going to have to wait. It will fade trust me. Mine was black and I dyed it 3 times and left it in a bit longer. It didnt work. It made my hair very damaged but thought time since it was so damaged and it could hold the color it faded with in a half a month.

ok, well this is the reason I will not color peoples hair black. Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do. The color is not working because you cannot lift color with color. meaning if the color you are trying to use is lighter than the color on your head you are wasting your time. Color strippers are useless, and if you try to bleach your hair you will either fry it off your head or end up with orange. It unfortunatly just has to grow out.

I would bleach it. use 25 volume so your hair wont fall out, but it will still damage it a lil. use conditioner to make it better.
i think you can also find a hair salon that strip dye... not sure how it works though.

STOP DYING YOUR HAIR!!! it's going to fall out, i would recommend just letting it grow out and maybe cutting it a little shorter. i also recommend going to your salon and asking them what they would suggest to do. good luck!
