Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.' Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet. “But they paid no attention and went off--one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ The man was speechlesThen the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
“For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

When I think of that phrase I think of the parable in Matthew 13.
Behold, a sower went forth to sow, and when he sowed (those that are the ones called and heard the word, the word is the seeds) some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up ( some will hear but not believe) some feel on stony place (the word feel on a hard heart, they didn't want to believe) they had not much earth, and when the sun was up they were scorched, because they had no root, they were withered away, some fell among thorns and the thorns sprang up and choked them ( the things of the world) But others fell on good ground and brought forth fruit.
Many are called but when they hear the word of God, either the word lands on a hard heart or some choose not to believe, or if it takes root it doesn't last because they prefer the world. But if Gods word falls on a good and open heart, then the word will take hold, the word will spring forth in their hearts and they will be chosen.
sorry it is so long, but that is the best way that I was able to understand it.

Many are called but few are chosen: many are called to be christians and represent Christ in the world but only a few are chosen to do the works of the One who called them.

It means exactly what it says. If it's the bible you are talking about, it means we are all sinners and can all be chosen to go to Heaven if we believe in Jesus and His death and Resurrection and that He dies for our sins so that we may be forgiven. Even if at the point of death, you confess you are a sinner and ask for forgiveness...you will be forgiven. In the bible were people like Moses, King David and the Apostles and many more that found favor with God and were chosen to do His work and bidding. Some were made angels and saints and many are not. Anyone who had visions or heard God tell them what to do or what do write down (scribes) were favorable in the Lord's eyes. All of us are called upon to reach out to Christ, but whether you choose to do so or not is up to you. Because Jesus spilled His precious blood for us and took away our sins, we can all see the Glory of Heaven.
This same phrase is used by the Marines but has nothing to do with our Lord.

GoOoD gave us free will
it is his greatest gift
and worst curse
He gave us the will to
redeem or to damn ourselves
GoOoD works in our lives
in mysterious ways
but we must have the faith to follow the signs
he places in our path
The greatest miracle is that
we are the ones who create the
miracles though our actions
when GoOoD gives us the opportunity
So in that regard many are given the signs
in fact maybe we all are
but few have the faith, courage or foresight
to see what we must do
and thus very few are chosen
it is in this way that we find the
path of redemption

This is an interesting verse in Matthew 22:14
" For many are called but few are chosen"
To really appreciate the context of these verses there are a few other verses to strengthen and give perspective to this verse
Romans 1:7
To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, the called saints. Grace to you and Peace from God ou Father and the Lord Jesus Christ"
Note " all"
1 Corinthians 1:2
To the church of God which is in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, the called saints, with ALL those who call upon the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, who is theirs and ours"
again.." all"
This is a key verse that sort of hints to the " chosen "
Ephesians 4:1
" I beseech you therefore, I , the prisoner in the Lord, to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called"
To be called is to receive salvation as seen in the above verses. Whereas to be chosen is to receive a reward. All believers have been called, but few will be chosen to receive the reward.
Lets look at Revelation 17:14 to give some meat to this.
"These will make war with the Lamb and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings and THEY who are WITH Him, the called and chosen and faithful, will also overcome them."
Chosen is mentioned after " called". To be called is to be saved.. whereas to be chosen is to be approved by the Lord by virtue of an overcoming life. Today many are called but in the future few will be chosen...
This is a serious matter indeed dear. Many today do not deny the self.. take up the cross and follow the Jesus Christ. Today many of us would rather live for the Self and according to the flesh. We Live for the Pleasures of this world and not give the Lord a way to gain our hearts and all our love and to deal with all the inward parts of our being
We are not living a crucified life where it is no longer I .. but CHRIST who lives in me. ( Gal 2:20)
These chosen ones are those that are the overcomers. They loved not their soul life even unto death. Each day they lived a crucified life. In their lifetime they lived out Christ in all kinds of hard situations.. They were like the wise virgins who gained the extra oil in their vessels. These are the chosen.
So yes dear. many are called.. but few are chosen. Few will receive that reward.. Few will finish that race set. Few keep running with endurance. Few, having done all .. stand...
May the Lord of all Grace be so rich in mercy to awaken all of us so that the " chosen " can be a "few more."

You can read this story in Matthew 22 of the wedding feast. Many invitations were sent, but few came prepared in the wedding garments. God wishes all of us to come to Him through Christ, not all will.
My personal experience, and I tell you this only so that you can see how it is applied in daily life, is that when Jesus sent the invitation to me, there was no time to "think about it". I, am normally a skeptical person, I want to read the "fine print" and consider my options. But when Jesus came to me, I made the dicision on the spot. This is my personal opinon, there is no scriptual evidence of this, but I think there are some of us who can not refuse Him...........while many are called and either accept or decline, He knew that I would even before I did, therefore I was chosen. Please understand, I do not think myself a better person or Christian, it is simply the Only choice I could have made...... I knew very little of God or Jesus or even the Bible before I felt the calling, I accepted on faith and then applied myself to learning. I feel like , not only did He save my spiritual life, but He saved my physcial life as well.....although, through the years I have strayed and stepped outside His will, my faith in Him has always been there without question.

Great Question...Who are the chosen?
The Bible is very clear that those who love and seek the truth find him.
Many are called but those who love and seek God's truth are his chosen ones.

This is my understanding of this scripturistic passage:
Many are given the opportunity of knowing the truth about God and religion, then do something about it. Their agency is respected, and, depending on their personal choices in applying what they came to know and understand, God will honor them(the chosen ones), or not, with His trust and special blessings. It' s up to us, once God loves us all, but is Just, or wouldn't be trusted and loved. We can all be called, but unfortunately, not many of us qualify to be one of the chosen ones. Reason: Our poor choices in living our lives up to the knowledge we have been given. We need to be wise!
