we use frontline, and put it on the first day of the month.. so due for next applicaion tomorrow...she has dry skin and ocassional itchy from it... never seen a flea, and beleive me i check often..

well the last week i notice she is itching a bit more, today i see a flea... i give an oatmeal flea bath, and find several, but no flea dirt...

so i assume these are new fleas, she has recently been exposed or picked them up....BUT, i thought FRONTLINE was supposed to prevent this...and work for 30 days..
does it stop working or lose effectiveness after only a few weeks?? it is supposed to be waterproof as well...

was i misinformed about this product?? sorry so long, but i am interested in your experience with this product... thanks..

You've slightly misunderstood the way Frontline works - most people do. You MUST treat your environment with a spray in order to be flea free.

Frontline kills the adult fleas on an animal, and will continue to do this for up to a month. It does not however kill flea eggs or pupae - these will continue to hatch out in your environment. 95% of a flea population lives in the environment.

Yes Frontline is waterproof, but only 48 hours after application. It needs time to spread throughout the entire skin. You must also be VERY careful to get all the stuff on the skin of the animal, not the fur.

Your dog may be allergic to fleas. If so, even one bite can drive her drazy. It's important that you treat your environment - get a proper spray from a vets, not a store - because otherwise she can still be bitten.

You could switch to Frontline Plus, which will help treat the environment in the future because it does kill the flea eggs. But since you already have fleas in your house, you will still need to spray.

I live in an area where there are fleas all year round and I have used Frontline in the past as well as Advantage. Both seemed to stop working FULLY effectively for my dogs about two years ago or so. I went to Bio Spot, which works better for them and I have also tried Advantage MULTI, which is for heartworm prevention as well. It has worked well too. I think fleas are building a resistance to the preventions but they still help vs. no prevention products.

I use it every month and have no issues . Your dog might be sensitive to it and thats why the dry skin and such. I think any product is not 100 percent so if it seems your dog is getting fleas before the month is up , that is probably why. I have picked a flea off my dog on occasion as well.

I had a problem with my rescue dog. When he arrived he was more of a 4 legged buffet than a dog. The Humane society in CT. has mostly starting Vets and they had no experience with southern parasites. He had Southern whip or hook worm, Giardia, and a worm form of mange (it's usually mites). Fortunately my Vet was smarter. Because of his odd chemistry I have to use a Preventic collar and K( Advantix for the fleas. This seems to work well. Our other dog is fine with Frontline.

It may have lost its effectiveness after 25-28 days. So, you may need to give the application every 3 1/2 weeks. You also may want to change to Advantage. That is also an excellent product.

put it on and see if it goes away fro the month, the dosage mat just be a bit too small for the dog. Anyway, if it continues, I suggest trying to use another brand like the one with the little dog that says "There aint' no bugs on me"
