Systems theory tells us that every biotic element in a given ecosystem has either a direct or indirect effect on every other biotic element. Altering one can wreak havoc on the rest of the ecosystem. When wolves were removed from Yellowstone the populations of certain species of trees declined drastically. The wolves preyed on the elk, when the wolves were removed the elk population exploded and consumed more plant life than was usual. This led to the extreme decline in plant life. The wolves were recently reintroduced to Yellowstone, which has returned the balance to the area. Decreasing the population of wolves would have an adverse effect on the ecosystem as a whole.

Moose as well as Elk populations seem to respond fine to management efforts on an individual state level, depending on where you live. I agree that Wolf populations left unchecked can do a lot of damage to a lot of animals in the wild, but that in itself doesn't justify increased hunting of Wolves. I think the State and Federal government is on top of things in this regard and Moose populations shouldn't suffer any high loss in numbers once they mature past the yearling stages, after they are born. There are plenty of other species out there to provide additional meat on a Hunters table. I don't see it in short supply, at least in any of the Western and Northwestern States and Canada, were I have hunted many years...Just my opinion based on what I have seen in my lifetime..

Yes. Here in Alaska we use predator control and have experts shoot wolves from aircraft. It is NOT hunting. It is predator control.
