I put on a ring on my index finger last night and now I can't get it to come off. It only hurts my finger when I try to pull it off but when I leave it alone it doesn't hurt, so it's not cutting off circulation or anything. I tried vegetable oil, and soap and it's not coming off. Any suggestions?? Thank you!

One thing that we've done in the past and works well is using a thin string ( dental floss or heavy thread), and start wrapping it tightly at the first knuckle. Keep wrapping it tightly around your finger until you get to the ring. If possible push the ring on even further and tuck the string under the ring. Now slide the ring back to it's normal position. Grasp the string end closest to the ring and pull it towards your fingertip. As it unravels from the finger, it will spin the ring off.
Works well, I've done it several times.

Trying to get it off has probably swelled your finger a little, so let it rest for a while and maybe try to reduce the swelling with some ice. Then, wash your hand in soap and cold water to make your skin a little slippery (you could even try some mousturiser?).

Instead of just pulling at it, try to press it against one side of your finger (e.g. the underneath) so you create a side that's got a little bit of movement/space/looseness between the ring and your finger and then pull the loose side out a little. Then, with the side you've just pulled, push that against your finger and pull at the opposite side.

I know it sounds like common sense but some people don't think of it! And I hope the way I explained made sense to you!!

[Try not to panic or it'll just make it more frustrating for you!]

GOOD LUCK!

ok so this might sound weird but take some dental floss...With dental floss, try to slide one end through the ring towards your hand, and then start wrapping the other end around the finger, sliding the stuck ring up as you go and loosening the dental floss so that it is never wrapped around the finger for more than one minute. Once the ring slides over the knuckle, it should slip off on its own.Good Luck let me know if this works for you it has for me...you can also use any kind of small wire or thread

It probably is a little late for home remedy's.You might have to go to the hospital and have it cut off.I got a ring stuck on me at a jewlery store and it just wouldn't budge.I was freaking out cause i couldn't afford to buy this gorgeous ring and it was stuck. The sales lady told me not to panic and to hold my hand way up over my head and to wait. After a few minutes she said to try to remove it and it came off with a few more tugs.By putting my hand up i was reducing the swelling and it made the ring easier to come off.My mom had a reaction to an antibiotic and her fingers swelled so much the hospital had to cut it off her.Try holding it up over your head and have some lotion or baby oil ready to try and use after holding it up.Good luck

Try taking it off later in the day; your fingers are swollen over night. if the methods you tried do not work, it is possible that you will have to have the ring cut off and then repaired.

Your fingers are different sizes throughout the day, and even on different days. Wait until the ring seems to spin loosely on yout finger, then try to get it off.

Try soaking your hand in ice water for a few minutes (not very long, maybe 2-3 min or you'll get frostbite). This will make your hand shrink a little. Then use something more oily like vaseline or antibiotic ointment to try and slide it off. If this doesn't work, go to the ER, they have ring-cutters and can get it off for you.

I had the same problem. Couldn't remove the ring no matter what I tried. Then when I was in a hot shower, I noticed the ring seemed to fit better and sure enough, it slipped off easily. wouldn't hurt to try it.

Usually soap will do the trick. If not, try raise your hand up. That will drain out some blood and reduce the size of your finger. If that fails, try glycerol. It is a better lubricant.

its not cutting off circulation YET, if it is that stuck eventually it probably will. try biting it off, its hard to explain... or you could try butter, that has worked for me before,

EDIT: here is actually a site that takes you through ways to do it step by step, you could try this.

if this doesnt work i would suggest going to an emergency room and getting it cut off, the ring can be fixed, worry about your finger

I would try putting my hand in a bowl of ice. This constricts the blood vessels and therefore makes the finger smaller. Hopefully this helps. Good Luck!
