everything flying off into space. How can the Bible be so inspired or whatever you call it, if it has such an obvious error in basic astronomy?

I’m no longer likely specific what to declare appropriate to the workings of God in this occasion. I did pay attention a narrative concerning to this related to NASA. the tale is going appropriate to the 1st Apollo rocket to the midday. For some reason they mandatory to calculate the kind of revolutions of the Earth, from “X” decrease back in time the launch date and time. The numbers weren't determining with the aid of some small decimal volume. you may’t have numbers no longer artwork out once you will the moon. between the physicists grew to become into Jewish and remembered the tale out of the Bible. They extra a 12 hours and the mathematics labored to the peerlessly. is this authentic? I don’t understand, despite the fact that it’s some thing I heard 40 years in the past. D

What? The Earth revolves around the sun, you are aware of this, right? The Sun doesn't actually move.

MAJOR EDIT ~ I re-read the question and think I understand what you are saying. Sorry about that, BIG weekend, ya don't wanna know...=). The bible was written before men had any knowledge of astronomy. They did not understand how the solar system worked. They were not aware that the Earth is spinning. They did not know the concept of gravity. Isaac Newton wasn't around when the bible was written and had yet to discover it. Anything and everything was supposedly "of God". Science was not yet a major player in the debate.

LOL @ Thumbs Down

I'm going to bed........

The earth does not need to spin in order for gravity to work, only for the days and night to pass. God can stop the earth from spinning and the only way we would know it was by the sun staying in one place in the sky, so it would appear to be standing still compared to the norm of it appearing to move across the sky.

Here is the enigma......

The one thing that can determine the truth to you is found in the one place where a camel can go through the eye of a needle...... If you can control it, you can certainly move a mountain.......

What exactly can this be?

Because if this place is true... then there must be some truth to the things written in Scripture.....

The Bible is great literature to be appreciated as drama and poetry but it debases and insults it to pretend that it is a textbook of science or history or that its words were ever intended to be taken literally in an era when storytelling was commonly in the form of *midrash* or parables, not literal accounts.

In any case when the OT was written they assumed the Sun went around the Earth, not vice versa, and they really had no way to know the truth so give them a break.

Well Your science is wrong. It is not the spinning of the earth that keeps us here it is the mass of the earth reacting on our mass. However the stories in the bible would probably bring about serious catastrophes in many parts of the world and looking at the many suddenly disappearing civilizations such catastrophes probably happened.

Well answer this -Why do we feel the wind? We can't see it. Is it really there? of course it is! Stop trying to disprove what is true. God is way smarter than any astronomer. Astronomers can't figure out a lot of things. That's why they are continually researching.

Are you referring to Joshua chapter 10?

I'll let you in on a little secret--the earth DOES NOT move!

Notice that the sun was created on the FOURTH day.
