they look like large mosquito bites and are not red

I'm not vet so it's hard for me to say, (especially without seeing your dog)
Best take your dog to a vet and find out.

My little Pit puppy came up bumps all over her head and her back and legs. The vets best guess was a spider bite or a wasp sting which caused an allergic reaction. A little Benadryl took care of the problem.

My dog has this too. It itches so I have to apply Benedryl on it for him all the time. It eventually heals up. Just be sure to keep him away from ant piles and such. Give him medicine or put something on him to repel insect bites.
