my mom needs to lose the last of her weight by november 1st. she lost about 14/15 pounds the first 16 days. last week she lost absolutely nothing or even gained a pound. i have heard about plateaus, but will she continue losing weight this coming week. her plan is always the same. her diet is around 1200 calories right now (plus wine and tea) and she goes to the gym for an hour or two and burns about 800 calories on the bike...

so: what caused her weight to stay the same this week?
will next week work? why/why not?

my mom said she would take me to disneyland if i be her coach because i'm "somewhat diet-savy" according to her. it would be really great to go.... =/ she really wants to get to her goal for her class reunion!!

the majority of her weight loss is due to water loss when stored nutrients are metabolized for energy. she needs to make greater changes to her diet. it typically takes a good 3-4 week before actually measurable fat loss occurs as the result of a new diet. she needs to make sure that she is consuming at least enough calories to support her BMR, that is the minimal daily caloric requirement. active people typically need to consume slightly more calories than the BMR requires to lose body fat. she should be eating close to 40% protein, 40% carbs (with 30 grams fiber) and 20% fats.

she hit a plateau because her plan is staying the same, in order to keep losing weight she needs to vary her workouts by upping the calorie loss and doin other things than just riding a bike... also improving her food choices diet wise... if she doesnt continue to make changes to her diet and fitness she will stay about the same where she is now
