Would you like your child to have your child have a security item like teddy bear, blanket, or pacifier.
My one child does and my other doesn't and I sometimes wish they both had one. Not really a question so much as a poll I guess. I know it may suck to get rid of but I honeslty think they are cute enough that they wouldn't be embarrased by them no matter how old they are

some kids feel better with such an item, some without. There is no right or wrong answer here. When the child who has one no longer feels the need, they will give it up all by themselves.

You know come to think of it none of my kids have really had a security item. I wish that they had though, it would have made some of the transitions a tad easier. Only one of them even took a binky/pacifier, and only for 6 months. My little girl will sometimes carry her baby doll around but only for about 10 minutes, tops. I think it could be harder too though, like if a blankie or special item was misplaced, you would have a devasted child that would not want to go anywhere or sleep until it was found. I think each child is just different and some want a cuddly and others don't.

Both my kids have favourite soft toys which they like to take to bed with them, but neither is devastated when they're not there, they'll just move on to the second favourite. It just happened that way, but I think it's ideal - they have something to cuddle and comfort them if they want to, but don't turn a hair if it can't be found on any particular occasion.

They don't, and never have been, taken out of the house other than for overnight trips though. I think a three year old trailing a blanket everywhere is just as bad as a three year old with constant dummy hanging out of mouth. There's a difference between having something to comfort you if you're unhappy, and being unhappy if you don't have it.

I've always tried right from birth not to have my kids totally dependent on anything, be it a dummy, a rigid nap or meal schedule, a comforter, one particular person putting them to bed...and I think they've grown up much more secure because of it. Not being able to take a particular item somewhere, or me not being there at bedtime, simply isn't an issue for them and never has been.

Both my kids suck their thumbs and one has a stuffed animal and the other likes a burp cloth with a tag. They love them and have them in bed every night!

I had a frog pillow growing up and I still have it to this day! I think it's great if a child has one. It would be an interesting study to see why some do and some don't!

My daughter still sleeps with a stuffed animal, she is 11. My son is 6 and has a teddy bear. He takes it every where, even to football practice. He is a rough, tough boy and plays with kids older than him. A new kid (8 years old) made fun of his bear. My boy waited until they had to hit together and laid him out. The boy doent make fun of his bear any more. Actually none of the kids do.

I was anti-pacifier b/c I didn't wan tmy baby to get attached to it, but he loved it after I was bullied into giving it to him in the hospital for a hearing test (he had to be very quiet). He loved it so much, I gave in! Now he is 4 months old and still has it. I will have to brake down and take it away when he starts crawling though.

I think it's nice for them to have some form of comfort with them. For example, right now, I have to go back into my bedroom every hour or so to nurse my 10 month old back to sleep because she doesn't know how to self soothe. If she had a lovey or some other item, I doubt I would have to do this.

My four year old loves his stuffed animal, Patch (101 Dalmatians)...it's definitely his security item/transitional object...he sleeps with it, and it used to come on the odd car ride with us, but not for a long time...

My 14 month old has recently fallen in love with his soft blue blanket...

I have no plans to get rid of either...they'll be done with them when they're done...

yes I think there good. I had "Bunny" as i kid and he stood by me through thick and thin (I still have him to this day, but I stopped sleeping with him quite a few years back LOL) My daughter hasn't gotten overly attached to any one item yet but if she does I'm happy for her to have it
