And how the heck do we keep them from comingback into our home? and off of our children? like I said we have done two types of treatment in the last two days and I also cut my oldest childs hair. To what extent should I go when disenfecting our home? I am a mother with an emergency please someone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Often two rounds of treatment are required to get rid of lice entirely. This is because the first round of medication kills the bugs but not the lice eggs. These eggs then hatch in 7-10 days and that's when you apply the second round of medication.

Be aware that the empty egg cases will remain attached to the hairs and this doesn't necessarily mean that there is ongoing infection. The egg cases can sometimes be removed with a fine toothed comb if they bother you.

Interestingly, there are a lot of different types of lice and they are often very specific to the species that they parasitize - so a species of lice that attacks a specific bird, for instance, will only attack that specific bird and no others.

As you might imagine, the lice that plague humans are closely related to the lice that plague gorillas; some scientists believe that as humans were evolving from gorillias, the gorillas lice were evolving into human lice right alongside us!

Oooh NO!! : (
I feel your pain!

If your child is 2 years old or under, you should not use medicated lice treatments. You'll need to remove the nits and lice by hand.

It's also a good idea to use a fine-tooth comb on your child's hair after regular shampooing every 3 to 4 days for 2 weeks. Wetting the hair beforehand is recommended because it temporarily immobilizes the lice and they become easier to comb out.

Keep in mind that head lice don't survive long once they fall off a person. So it's unnecessary to spend a great deal of time and money trying to rid the house of lice. here are some simple steps you can take to help get rid of the lice and their eggs, and help prevent a lice reinfestation:

Wash all bed linens and clothing that's been recently worn by anyone in your home who's infested in very hot water (130 degrees Fahrenheit, or 54.4 degrees Celsius) then put them in the hot cycle of the dryer for at least 20 minutes.
Dry clean any clothing that isn't machine washable.
Have bed linens, clothing, and stuffed animals and plush toys that can't be washed dry-cleaned. Or, put them in airtight bags for 2 weeks.
Vacuum carpets and any upholstered furniture (in your home or car).
Soak hair-care items like combs, barrettes, hair ties or bands, headbands, and brushes in rubbing alcohol or medicated shampoo for 1 hour. You can also wash them in hot water or just throw them away.
Because lice are easily passed from person to person in the same house, other infested family members will also need treatment to prevent the lice from coming back.

First of all calm down, it is not such a big deal if you know what to do.
First to get rid of lice, go to the drugstore and get a metal lice comb NOT a plastic one bec they dont work. The brand I use is called Nisska comb, then on dry hair rub Pantene conditioner into the hair and comb one section at a time with the comb and then after each time you comb through wipe the comb off on a white paper towel to see if there are any lice, and then dip the comb in alchohol before combing again after you are finished wash your childs hair with shampoo and water and then blow dry hair on the hottest your kid could take. Then for the next two weeks comb out your childs hair with the comb.
Wash their pillows and bedding in hot water and hot dryer and wash any hats that could be washed what cant be washed put in a plastic garbage bag and tie it up for a few days that will kill and lice and their eggs.
The lice treatments on the market do not work anymore and some could be harmful.
if you know what to do it is not so bad. Their are some people who put mayonaise or other stuff to nake sure that the lice cant stick to the hair, but I think it is not neccassary, all you have to do is check their hair everyother day and us ethe comb every once in a while and you will be fine. I have friends who live in another country that have it worse they could tell what color hair the lice came from.
feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions

Lice are a royal pain. For the child and the parents. Ever heard of the term "nit picking"? The nits are the eggs the lice lay. They are extremely hard to see, and to get rid of. Normally, kids get lice from another child at school. More so if your child has long hair. My daughter has hair to her waistline, and it was a real challenge to keep her lice free. It seems that once one kid gets it, it goes around like the flue. We used RidX for the lice, got an electric comb for the nits, washed everything in her room that was washable in HOT water, had the carpet steamcleaned, and she still got em again a month later. We found that the nitpicking was the best solution. Those are the eggs, and if no eggs, no rehatch.
So, rewash EVERYTHING again, reclean carpets, and spend at least an hour sifting through her hair, nightly. The nits look like very very small white things that are attached to her hair. And they don't come loose easily. Normally at the scalp, but we found em way lower as well. God what a pain it was, and great luck to you!!!

Lice plant eggs in the hair...They are very very small and lice are very small too...Olive Oil kills lice but not the eggs you have to get a special metal comb and carefully comb through small chunks of hair preferably with a magnifiying glass to make sure you get it all or take them to a doctors office to get it taken care of leave the oliv oil on for like half an hour I believe and wash out very good becuase it is an oil..The olive oil is very good for the hair too...I had lice a couple times when I was a kid and my little sister had it almost seven times because of my sister in laws cousin...But trust me Olive Oil works to kill the lice buttt NOT the eggs...

I've often wondered that. I wonder if some people actually cultivate their own, without ever needing to come into contact with an infected person. Like where did the first head lice come from and how did they first appear?? Sorry I cant help you though- I wish I knew

Use the lice treatment at the same time as washing all bed linen, clothes they are wearing before treatment, if they have sat on couches, spray the backs where their heads touch with Raid and let dry.
In other words, you HAVE to treat any place that your childs head has touched. Also wash out combs and hair brushes.
Use a nit comb to go through the hair to remove eggs(nits).
It's difficult but you have to be ruthless. Sorry
