what kind of woman asks this question??? if you bring a child into the world and choose not to have the birth father involved, do NOT assume that the kind man who is in the child's life is a sucker. get some counseling and an education so that you can support YOUR child.

Why would he? The law does not require that just because he's a man he should have to pay child support. For what reason do you think he may have to pay child support? Where did you come up with that idea from? I'm not sure I really understand the situation.... If the biological father is in the picture, as you seem to indicate he is, it is he that is responsible for child support, not some other man.

That depends on the state you live in. Here in WA, "de facto" parents are (sometimes) required to pay child support. Here is how it works. If you were to marry this guy and then subsequently divorced him, since he in not the child's biological father, he wouldn't be required to pay child support or allowed visitation UNLESS he file under the "de facto" parent rules. Generally speaking, it means that the father(or mother) has been providing care as the "Dad" (or mom) for (I believe) 7 years. That would mean that although he would pay child support, he would also be entitled to visitation. I went through this with my husband and his oldest "son". He had been the son's "father" for 9 years when he and the mom divorced. He pays child support and has the same visitation as with his biological daughter. But if the guy is just a bf-no, he wouldn't have to pay child support.

If you were married at the time of the birth, some judges will say yes and some will say no. Also, as many others have said, the birth certificate counts. If he has no connection of that sort, then no, and in most cases it is the biological father who must pay, if he isn't already doing all he can to support you two.

The only way he would be resonsible is if he was as you already stated on the birth certificate and or bio dad. Now is some states if you are on the birth certificate and she takes you to court for support you have the right to request a paternity test if you don't and start to pay then you find out later you are not the dad you still have to pay Also if you marry the mom and the bio dad is not paying support you start rasing the child you divorce you can be asked to pay support

I can't imagine a court ordering child support when a man is not the biological father or on the birth certificate.

Only if the biolocigal father signed away his rights and the other man adopted the child legally. That is the only way the man would be finacially responsible for a child that is not biologically his.

No, he does not have to pay child support. Child support is the responsibility of the biological father.

I believe he'd have to be the child's adopted parent to have to pay child support, if he wasn't the biological father.

Geez, NO. Why should he? Go after the biological father, or are you trying to stick some innocent schmuck with child support because the real father is a deadbeat? He could sue you for damages though if a court ordered DNA test proves him not the father. Please do not have any more children.
