This all happening now or is very imminent.

Since oil rules our lives, then the cost of everything will skyrocket. No more gadgets, no more cars, high cost utilities and food.

Life, I think, will necessarily become more primitive in all the major western societies and the American Way will be forced to change.

Agreed. We all need to think hard about how we can stop consuming resources. Americans measure their quality of life by the quantity of resources they consume.

We should be thinking about how we can have a good life while minimizing scarce resource consumption.

Already, I recycle, ride public transportation, ride a bike, lower my thermostat, eat vegitarian food, and try to avoid purchases that are not necessary. This is a lifestyle, and it can be a very positive one and I don't feel deprived at all.

It won't us poor folks have aways used and or had less than our share of resource's.Less food, less money,we have always recycled everything,it will just be more of the same.Only difference I see is more and more people will have to do the same. The problem is when you stop spending you lose economic growth then jobs,so the economy will go bust and we'll be in another depression but this time the government won't be able to save us they have already sold it to china and others and it will truly be hard hard times for all no matter how much you conserve now it won't be there those extra years. And that is a real possibality.

Food and Water are going to be the most difficult transitions to make. I allready conserve, and have adopted a more sustainable diet, but I am currently unable to produce my own food. So most likely as any potential probems increase, so too will my self sufficiency. I hope.
