Yes, they are deceiving themselves and others. They can't hold two conflicting opinions at the same time. This is the reason for their denial. Jesus drank alcohol (wine), but Christians are not suppose to. So, they come up with...there's no alcohol in the wine that Jesus drank.

Her claim is not true. There is no evidence for such an idea and the Bible never mentions that, either. The wine of the Bible was just as potent as any we drink today, as evidenced by the biblical injunctions against drunkenness. The whole grape juice argument is used by Baptists and other Prots to reconcile their no drinking doctrine with what the Bible says. The real problem Baptists have with alcohol is that they don't have any faith in a grown person to control themselves, and feel that it is just better to go cold turkey rather than risk losing control and getting hammered. We Catholics don't worry about this sort of thing.

The Bible warns about drinking "wine" and "strong drink" What is misunderstood is that the wine back then was not what we have now. In fact our wine would probably be considered strong drink in the bible. The alcohol produced from the fermenting process killed the bacteria in the water. You pretty much died if you drank pure water unless it was from a country well. In cities chamber pots were emptied into the street where the waste was washed into the local water supply/river/stream making the water undrinkable. Wine was made extremely potent and then mixed with water. The poor actually drank tha wine with more water and the rich got more potent and quality wine.

They say that because they are stupid and they don't know anything. Wine was wine in biblical times just as it is now. Grape juice was a separate kind of drink, just as it is now. If the biblical writers had meant to say grape juice, those are the words they would have used.

Jesus knew how to keep a party going (and it was wine: no matter how you twist the Greek, it cannot be rendered Welches Grape Juice).
There was no method to KEEP grape juice from turning INTO wine until Dr. Welch discovered the process in the 1800's. He was a Seventh Day Adventist.

Wine wasn't like grape juice but it was deluded. Now adays we drink wine "un-cut" as they would call it. That means we don't add water to our wine. (And by not doing so the Greeks and Romans would have considered us uncivilized and alcoholics. Macedonians drank their wine un-cut and were looked down upon for that).
The reason wine was cut (deluded) was because water just wasn't safe to drink back then. It was dirty. By adding the wine, it helped "cleanse" the water.
So when people say the wine in Jesus's time was like grape juice, they're wrong but neither was the wine like the way we drink it today.

I've never heard a Christian say that before... I'm pretty sure wine back then was just as alcoholic as it is now.
Ephesians 5:18 Do not be drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
It would be kinda hard to get drunk on wine if it was non-alcoholic :)
You can be assured that this Christ follower does not believe that assumption!

Sometimes, it was just grape juice. Wine was reserved for the rich and the poor didn't know how to ferment the grapes.

Drinking wine is a toxic thing,it intoxicates you and supposedly how are you going to fit a drunk in the bible that just isn't gonna sound good. So they have to make you feel as if alcohol was not the drink of the romans, meanwhile they were constantly drunk. Funny thing is,don't we recall these words being said....can you remember who said them,
"Eat,Drink and be Merry"....Obviously,if they were eating they were drinking so they can be merry.

Where does it say in the bible it was fermented. There are historians that believe it was fermented and some that believe most juice at the time, unfermented, was called wine.
You werent there neither was I so I guess noone will ever really know.
This is a history question not really a religious one. Because the Bible doesnt specify it either way.
